Hello Soup Dragons

It’s been a while! We hope you are well and coping during these strange times. We are certainly missing seeing you all for food and fundraising, and hope to be back as soon as we can. In the meantime, you can still make a difference to our community by supporting local projects directly…we have some to share with you here:

Home-Start Sutton – is a voluntary organisation working to support families with young children. They work by training volunteers, who are parents themselves, to support families who are experiencing difficulties, in the family’s own home. Home-Start Sutton won at Sutton Soup 15 last October, and this year they are fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the Mayor of Sutton’s charities. They are asking people to sign up for the Mayor of Sutton’s 1001 Challenge – raise money by being sponsored to take part in your own ‘1001’ over the month of August. It’s a fantastic, fun idea and you can find out more here on the Home-Start Sutton Facebook page, or click this link to view the sponsorship form.

Sutton Women’s Centre – do amazing work supporting women in and around Sutton. They pitched at Sutton Soup 9 back in April 2018, hoping to raise money to refurbish the centre. Right now they are helping to deal with a 25% increase in domestic abuse reports, which is a nationwide problem and a consequence of lockdown, and have a waiting list of 100 women who need counselling. If they can build an extension onto their current premises they will be able to offer an extra 40 hours of counselling a week to these and other vulnerable women. You can help by donating when you shop! Here is a link to their fundraising page, powered by Give as You Live. Sign up now:

The Diamond Centre for Disabled Riders – pitched at Sutton Soup 11 in October 2018. They told us how they provide unique facilities to benefit disabled children and adults in and around the area of Sutton by offering therapeutic riding sessions. They have seen their income slashed due to the lockdown and are in desperate need of donations to pay bills and to keep the centre running. They have been running for 50 years and want to keep going for a good while longer, please donate if you can:

Sutton Night Watch – work with homeless people in Sutton, and their goal is to make sure that no one goes to sleep on an empty stomach. They were the winners of the first-ever Sutton Soup, in April 2016, and they have gone from strength to strength in the borough and surrounding areas, becoming a registered charity and now operating a full-time service centre in Wallington offering showers, health services and other vital support to people in need. They are asking for donations to their #55Appeal from both individuals and businesses. Have a look here and see how you can get involved:

Thank you so much for taking the time to read these appeals! Please do forward this information on to anyone who you think might be able to help. We will be back very soon with another selection of Sutton groups who need your support, until then…

All the best
