Hello Soup Dragons
The summer is upon us and the sun is actually shining! But don’t get the barbeque out, have some Soup instead - Sutton Soup 14 is next week, on 11th July, and we have four amazing pitchers for you:
Stripey Stork – Stripey Stork is a local charity which takes in donations of preloved and new items for babies and children up to the age of 16. Volunteers ensure items are clean and safe to use and pass them on to local families in need. They currently respond to 50-60 requests for help every week and work with a number of agencies in Sutton to get these items where they need to go: https://stripeystork.org.uk
Inspire Partnership – Inspire is the commissioned provider of all drug and alcohol treatment and support services in Sutton. They offer a wide range of easily accessible and recovery focused services tailored to the needs of their clients including mental health support, rehabilitation, mentoring and training. They will be pitching for a brand new support service dealing with hidden harm to young people whose parents or carers misuse substances: https://www.cranstoun.org/service/inspire-sutton/
Muschamp SEN Base – the Special Educational Needs base at Muschamp Primary School has 52 places for children with speech and language needs. Many of the children also have occupational therapy. The school are pitching to turn a corridor into a ‘sensory path’ for the children, which will help the to regulate their bodies in preparation for learning: http://www.muschamp.org.uk
The Sound Lounge – is a new community music venue opening at the bottom of Sutton High Street. Their mission is to create an inclusive café, restaurant, arts space for all people, of all ages, at all times. As well as accessible gigs they plan to offer family workshops, friendship coffees, training for people suffering from disadvantage and a community kitchen for the homeless or those suffering from food poverty: http://www.thesoundlounge.org.uk
We can’t wait to hear these pitches! And we are also really looking forward to seeing Mel from Young Carers again, to find out how they have spent the £1290 they took away in July.
Heather and the team will be making some Tomato & Basil Soup for us but not the bread this time – we are excited to welcome a guest baker! Newly established local vegan pop up bakery Plantissimo have kindly offered to donate some loaves, here’s a link to their Instagram to whet your appetite: https://www.instagram.com/plantissimo/
By the way, we’ve come up with a great idea for you regular Soup Dragons – sometimes it’s hard to get the catering right and we end up with soup left over, so we have decided to say that if you bring along a container, and there is soup left over, fill your boots! It’s a shame to see it get wasted. Of course, if we do end up eating all the soup, there won’t be any to give away.
That’s about it for now…we are sold out online at the moment so if you have a ticket but you can’t make it, please do cancel and let someone else have your space.
All the best
The Sutton Soup Team
