Helping Others Pawsitively Everyday

Pawsitively Happenings

October 2021

Hi friends! Please look over our “Get Involved” volunteer opportunities including our growing Therapy Dog Program!

Founder's Note

Hello Angels,
First off, Thank you, we would not be where we are today without your support!  Your support comes in all sorts of ways through bringing smiles through waggin’ tails as well as financial support.
I started the beginning of the month by seeing the beautiful fall leaves in Tahoe as we said hello to our friends from the Order of the Eastern Star.  Finn, one of our service dogs in training along with his mom, joined me on the adventure.  We gave a quick update on the donations this organization has given over the last two years and they surprised us with another scholarship!
After returning back to Vegas, we hit the pavement running with the return of our Paws and Relax Lounges.  The pups have certainly enjoyed all the oohs and ahhs but most importantly the tremendous amount of belly rubs.
Just last week we held our first Passing of the Leash ceremony at Subaru of Las Vegas.  It was a joyful day filled with love, laughter, and cake!  Stacey and Harley were the recipient of our 2nd sponsored Assistance Dog Scholarship from Subaru.  Team Harley has worked really hard since Harley arrived in Vegas just four months ago from Colorado. The two were meant for each other and Harley gives Stacey the freedom to live her life on her terms, not her diagnosis’ terms,  as Harley alerts her to her medical needs.
We will end the last week of October with our Volunteer Luncheon - pictures to follow next month. This is our way of saying thank you to our volunteers by providing lunch and giving away some special gifts to all of our volunteers!
As always Pawsitively,
Stephanie Gerken

Assistance Dog Program

“Fun Fact”
Assistance Dog: a generic term for a guide, hearing, or service dog specifically trained to do three or more tasks to mitigate the effects of an individual’s disability. The presence of a dog for protection, personal defense, or comfort DOES NOT qualify that dog as an Assistance Dog. Assistance Dogs are covered under many legislative access laws for public access rights when working with their disabled handler.
Let's give a round of paws to our newest Assistance Dog Graduate teams. Check out the team pictures below.

Our Assistance program trains and provides dogs for people with disabilities - sometimes visible and sometimes invisible.

"Get Involved"
Therapy Dog Program

We are growing and are always looking for help!

“Get Involved” provides volunteer opportunities through which you can support Michael’s Angel Paws, give back to the community and be an advocate for everything Dogs.

Michael’s Angel Paws wishes to give back to the community and support the people of Las Vegas when and where the need arises. We provide volunteer opportunities in all three (3) of our Pillars of support which are Assistance Dog, Get Involved/Therapy Dog Team, and Community Dog Training Programs.  We know that by supporting others we can help make a better life for many while connecting with and learning about the human-animal bond that our dogs can give.

Our “Get Involved” opportunities allows an avenue for our supporters in the community to volunteer their valuable time to our cause - everything dogs!

Community Dog Training Program

Did you know?
How to teach your dog to “Lay Down”
With your dog in a sitting position and a treat in your hand, move your hand from your dog's nose towards their chest then straight down towards the floor. When your dog reaches down to get the treat and his/her front elbows touch the floor, say “Good”! and give them the treat.
Sounds simple?!

Our programs offer our very best in dog training to the Las Vegas community. We train Basic Obedience to Advanced Obedience, AKC Certified Canine Good Citizenship (AKC/CGC), and train teams to join our Therapy Dog Program.

"Get Involved" Spotlight

Ever since I saw my Ginger and from the day my puppy was born, I wanted us to be a therapy team.
My life has been so blessed, I have so much to be grateful for and I wanted to give back.
Ginger is two years old now.  For two years I enrolled her in every training class possible. We both had so much to learn!!
At the one-year mark, she was ready to go to the next level. We wanted to join a therapy program where we could showcase Ginger’s amazing talents!
Finally, I found the well-respected Michael's Angel Paws Organization and they had the type of program we were looking for. My choice of teams could not have been better.
Ginger is thriving!
She thrives because she is constantly challenged by the many choices of therapy assignments, interactions with her fellow teammates, and from the Michael’s Angel Paws leadership. I'm so proud to be a member of Michael's Angel Paws Therapy Team!
This is our "Pot of Gold" at the end of a rainbow. The rainbow I wanted from the day my sweet Ginger was born!

"Canine Coach" Spotlight

Dogs have always been the center of my world! I started out as a volunteer for local rescue groups and have now enjoyed a total of 16+ years of professional experience working with dogs in a wide variety of contexts.

I received my degree in Animal Behavior from Carroll University in my home state of Wisconsin before moving to Nevada three years ago. I am highly dedicated to providing my clients with scientifically sound, up-to-date training that is a fun, safe, and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I am a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) as well as a Certified Fear Free Professional Animal Trainer.

I believe that inspiring positive, mutually beneficial partnerships between dogs and their people is what dog training is all about. I love to use training to build trust-based relationships that are both fun and fulfilling. Nothing brings me more joy than helping families understand, communicate, and collaborate with their furry friends!
