Supporting continued improvements to health and care in Sefton

Sefton Partnership is set to be formally established on Friday 1 July as one of nine place based partnerships within the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System.

These partnerships will lead on shaping health and care in their areas, whilst the current clinical commissioning groups will be replaced by NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board, the new statutory NHS body.

In Sefton, these changes will support a continuation of long standing work outlined in Sefton2gether and Sefton Council’s Health and Wellbeing Strategy, to bring health and care closer together to improve and shape services around the needs of local people.

From 1 July, the roles and responsibilities of CCGs will transfer to the Integrated Care Board, though many workstreams will continue to support Sefton Partnership as it evolves. Among these, the CCG’s websites and social media accounts will be reshaped to support Sefton Partnership. A new management structure, drawing from the expertise at the CCG and Sefton Council, is being established for the Partnership and plans for how it will support the needs of the borough are being finalised.

CCGs in Sefton shortlisted for the 2022 HSJ Patient Safety Awards

We are delighted to announce that our medicines management team has been shortlisted for the Improving Safety in Medicines Management Award at this year’s HSJ Patient Safety Awards, recognising their outstanding contribution to healthcare.

Following two of the toughest years in the health and social care sector, the CCGs in Sefton continue to champion patient safety amidst challenges that the health and social care sector is facing.

New chair announced for Maternity Voices Partnership in Sefton and Ormskirk

New and soon to be parents and carers have a new champion to give their views and experiences of maternity services to for Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust.

Abi Cattlin, 30, from Southport has been appointed as chair of the Maternity Voices Partnership (MVP) in Southport, Ormskirk and Sefton to allow parents to give feedback about their experience.

Listening events are held on a monthly basis in a relaxed atmosphere to encourage people to discuss their experiences - find out more about the events here.

FREED service extended to Sefton to help young people battling eating disorders

Funding has been secured to extend the Liverpool FREED service across Sefton, to help even more young people and adults who are battling with eating disorders.

The ‘First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders’ (FREED) service will transform care for those with eating disorders, or emerging eating disorders. It enables them to be seen earlier and through a stepped care approach, which aims to provide the most efficient and effective intervention first and will allow transition to a more specialist intervention, should it be required.

Cheshire and Merseyside commits to green future

All 17 NHS Trusts in Cheshire and Merseyside have signed up to ambitious plans to make them net carbon zero by 2040.

Each Trust has published a Green Plan, key priorities from which are contained within the Cheshire and Merseyside Green Plan which will see opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and improve healthy environments across its estate.

Public asked for views on proposals for Liverpool University Hospitals services

The NHS has launched a public consultation about proposals for five Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) services – breast surgery, general surgery, nephrology, urology, and vascular surgery.

Running from 7 June until 2 August 2022, the consultation is part of a wider plan to better organise where care happens across Aintree, the Royal Liverpool, and Broadgreen hospitals.

The proposals involve bringing staff together – where they aren’t already working as a single team – so that care is more joined up.

Bringing clinical teams together and reducing duplication across Liverpool’s main adult hospitals, will help make the most of specialist staff and resources, and ensure that all patients receive the same, high-quality treatment, whichever hospital they use.

If the changes went ahead, it would mean that in some cases people would be treated at a different LUHFT hospital than they might currently use.

This would mainly affect specialist surgery and inpatient care (where an overnight stay in hospital is required), but there are separate plans for each of the five services.

New funding round launched for Sefton Crowd campaign

Sefton Council has launched a new funding round as part of its digital crowdfunding initiative Sefton Crowd, to support community led ideas that will help the borough to become more vibrant, resilient, and connected.

Working in partnership with Spacehive, the UK’s leading civic crowdfunding platform, Sefton Crowd is an initiative that gives residents with an idea to improve their community the opportunity to gain funding via Spacehive’s crowdfunding platform.

Sefton Council has allocated a total of £50,000 to the programme, with up to £5,000 available to help boost projects towards their funding target. The deadline to put forward your idea is 14 September 2022. Read more.
