You are receiving this letter because you submitted a pre-application for the 2018 Making the Road Seminar for Southern Africa, but decided that you were unable to join us on the seminar this year. A few of you have decided to apply for the Cuba Seminar instead. Others of you had other pressing obligations or personal considerations that make it impractical for you to participate this year. Many said that you hoped to consider this opportunity again next year.
In any case we hope that you will keep in touch. For our part we regret not having you in the group going this year, which has now been finalized. All of you remain on the updates list for Making the Road, so you will hear reports from the seminars this summer. And you can also follow on the Making the Road Facebook page, which will also post occasional updates (https://www.facebook.com/MakingTheRoadByWalking/)
Making the Road, in collaboration with AfricaFocus Bulletin, has also created resource guides for earlier years, and will be supplying additional guides over the summer for participants. The previous guides are now available on the web at http://www.africafocus.org/mtr-resources/intro-resources.php. We will also let you know when new resource guides are available, for your own reflection and to begin early with preparations for next year! We are particularly excited about a new module which we
are now working on, to be ready for participants later in April, entitled "United States of America and the African World: Unequal History in an Unjust World." This will have annotated links to resources putting the USA today in the context of transnational and historical links, including slavery, the slave trade, conquest, violence, Wakanda, and reparations.
