Across the Diocese

Our video series this month highlights Fr. Jason McClure, Vocations Director and Vicar for Clergy, as he discusses how a recent trip to the Holy Land has forever shaped his view of Holy Week. Bishop William F. Medley then speaks to Fr. Jerry Riney, rector at St. Stephen Cathedral, about Chrism Mass and its importance in the Diocese.

Chrism Mass | March 22

Join Bishop Medley for Chrism Mass in the Owensboro Sportscenter on March 22nd at 6:30 PM.

In observance of the Extraordinary Jubilee Year and in celebration of God’s outpouring of mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, an opportunity for Confessions will be available at St. Stephen Cathedral prior to Chrism Mass.

You are invited to visit the Cathedral on March 22 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM to encounter God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and to walk through the Door of Mercy located at the main entrance of the Cathedral.

You can learn more about the Chrism Mass by watching Fr. Jerry Riney's conversation with the Bishop in this month's Across the Diocese.

Youth 2000

Culminating with a Mass with the Bishop, the three-day Youth 2000 event was attended by more than 550 youth from all across the diocese.

Held at a new location this year, the Owensboro Convention Center, youth and young adults were challenged to grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith and deepen their commitment to the service of the Church and others through this Eucharistic-centered retreat.

“I was a prisoner, and you visited me.” Just as Jesus called us to remember our brothers and sisters who are in jail and prison, parishioners within the Diocese of Owensboro seek to bring the joy of God to local correctional facilities. Brett Mills, one of the jail and prison ministry volunteers, explains: “It’s one of those ways in which the New Evangelization synergizes with the corporal works of mercy.” Read the whole story in the April issue of The Western Kentucky Catholic.

Divorce: a hot-button topic in the Catholic Church

The Diocese of Owensboro’s Offices of Family Life and Tribunal are bringing in Rose Sweet, nationally-known author and recognized authority on the pastoral issues surrounding relationships, divorce healing, declarations of invalidity (annulments), and remarriage. Sweet has personal experience as a first wife, second wife and stepmother. She brings warmth and wit while sharing hope, love, and mercy.

Sweet will host an evening on divorce, declarations of invalidity (annulments), and remarriage. This event will be held on Friday, April 22 at 6:30 pm at Sts. Joseph and Paul Parish Hall, Owensboro, and provides an opportunity for Sweet to dispel some myths surrounding divorce and the Catholic Church and an opportunity for attendees to ask questions.
