2016 was a very active year at theOtherDada;
Let’s go over some of our highlights!
Our LANDFORM house is finally completed! It is in the process of becoming the first BREEAM certified villa in KSA, with a focus on local + healthy materials, native + low maintenance landscape, water reduction + recycling, and energy reduction + clean production.
The year started with having theOtherDada founder Adib being listed in GOOD Magazine’s 2016 “GOOD 100”, a list that highlights 100 individuals who are improving the world through creativity and innovation.

* We're happy to have been part of Home of Innovation, SABIC’s most recent project. It is a research center focusing on sustainability, enabling customers, businessmen and providers to meet. Assigned as interior designers, theOtherDada’s focus was on sustainable materials and furniture.
CONVIVIUM home a make-over of a an apartment in (Beirut) aiming to transform the space into a Living apartment that embodies characteristics of biophilic design where natural features and processes are integrated in the design of the built space, construction waste is recycled and urban farming is practiced.
* theOtherDada won the TRKL Lab competition, a project to help promote and empower Lebanese designers and design, by providing them with the right space, tools, craftsmanship and community access.
* The talks about reclaiming the open space are still relevant with Not Just About Dalieh; and we joined the “Civil Campaign to Protect Dalieh” and ifpo (Institut français du Proche-Orient) for a presentation on “Mille et une Dalieh: Beyrouth comme on l’imagine. Récits d’une résistance citoyenne”.
JURIES we've served on

* TandemWorks invited us to serve on the jury for a competition to design a public play installation in Karantina's public garden, which has been recently renovated by Zeina Kronfol and Pamela Haydamous. The permanent installation is dedicated to children of all ages, in a popular neighborhood of Beirut.
* After our participation in last year’s Place by Design Competition at SxSWeco, we were happy to serve as jurors or this year’s candidates. We reviewed dozens of inspirational projects with tremendous positive impact!

* WATER is the second publication by Sursock Museum in the series Elements for a World, to which Adib has contributed an essay "How Can Designers Create Conditions to Support Life?"
* Beirut River 2.0 was featured in the DailyStar highlighting the importance of a developing a system’s thinking integrating sustainability and public awareness.
* Beirut River 2.0 Installation during Beirut Design Week was also featured in L’Orient le Jour.
EVENTS from Beirut to Turkey and Shanghai!

* Adib Dada was invited to participate in Landversation for the Himalayas Museum in Shanghai. He joined a multidisciplinary team composed of Otobong Nkanga an artist from Nigeria/Belgium; Helena Ramos a cultural producer from Brazil, and Peter Webb an ecopsychologist from Brazil.
* We were invited by Sursock Museum to give a toxic tour on Beirut River highlighting the challenges of the river and its surroundings; we also participated in one of the Panel Talks on Water by looking at the short- and long-term consequences of ecological crisis and the legacy of toxic sites in Lebanon and elsewhere.
* During Beirut Design Week we echoed Beirut River 2.0 by developing a temporary Public Space in Karantina: showcasing the social and environmental interventions we are proposing to spread around the area, and invited the community to see for themselves!
* We also participated in Turkey Design Week which was held in October and showcased our projects of Interior Design, Architecture and Strategic Planning.

Awareness raising, public participation and continual learning is at the core of what we do. This is reflected in the different workshops that we take part of, such as:
* Speaking at the Build it Green Conference, we tried to answer the question: How Can Nature Inspire a Better Urban Development for Beirut?
* And we participated in the University College of London in their DPU Beirut summerLab highlighting Riverside Ecologies and Contested Waterscapes.
* Thanks to our work in the environmental and social entrepreneurship field, Adib Dada has been nominated for the Middle East Leadership Initiative 5th class, an initiative by The Aspen Institute!
* We introduced AUB Landscape students to the concepts of Biophilia and Biomimicry;
* Yasmina and Adib are now officially certified permaculture(ist)!
* Finally, we are happy to have celebrated our first year of participation with the UN Global Compact Network
