Check your I-20 or DS-2019 for a recent travel signature

If you plan to travel this summer, please check NOW when your document was last signed. Requesting a travel signature will take 2 business days, so please PLAN AHEAD!

All students are required to have a travel signature that has been signed within one year in order to re-enter the U.S. Travel signatures are valid for one year. Exceptions: a travel signature is valid for only 6 months if 1) your passport is Canadian  OR  2) you are traveling to Canada, Mexico, or the adjacent islands  OR  3) if you are currently working while on F-1 OPT or F-1 STEM OPT Extension.

To request an updated travel signature, visit the ISO during business hours and drop off your most current Form I-20 or DS-2019 at the reception desk. You may return to the ISO after 2 business days to pick-up your immigration document with the new travel signature.

Please see our website section on "Entering US Borders" for more info.

ISO Closed Thursday, July 4 for Independence Day

The ISO and most MIT offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday.  The ISO will re-open on Friday, July 5 at 9:00am.

Not graduating yet? Extend your I-20 or DS-2019!

Please check NOW when your document expires. If you are not finishing by this date, please request an extension as soon as possible on iMIT
NOTE: During this busy season, processing new immigration documents will take 10 business days.

Apply for post-OPT before you travel outside US

If you are completing your studies soon and plan to apply for OPT, you absolutely MUST apply for OPT BEFORE you exit the US after graduation. Please attend sign up for an Employment session on iMIT if you haven't already, in order to start the OPT process.
NOTE: During this busy season, processing new immigration documents will take 10 business days.

Work authorization required for off-campus employment

Authorization by the government is required for any off-campus work, either in the summer or during the academic year. Sign up for a required ISO Employment Information Session on iMIT to find out about off-campus work options, either CPT or OPT. Learn more about off-campus work options on our website
NOTE: During this busy season, processing new immigration documents will take 10 business days.

Here is the direct link to the iMIT Session Sign Ups. Select one of the bolded links in order to sign up for a session.

NOTE: If you've applied for OPT, you MUST have your EAD card in your hand, and the start date must be effective in order to start working.
