Monday, 12/12: Final Vote on Move-In Fees!

Rally & Demand Council Pass Our Legislation!

No Exemptions! No Loopholes!

Monday, December 12, 1 PM
Seattle City Hall, 2nd Floor (600 4th Ave)

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

MONDAY, December 12, the Seattle City Council will finally cast the deciding vote on our move-in fees reform legislation, requiring landlords to accept payment plans for upfront costs. These high upfront moving costs are one of the biggest barriers to finding affordable housing for families struggling to get by, and we’ve been fighting for almost half a year to win this very reasonable demand.

But the Rental Housing Association of Washington State (RHAWA) has gone all out in a campaign to undermine this law with loopholes and exemptions before it’s passed! We can’t allow that. Every renter in Seattle deserves these protections today.

We need your help to pass the strongest version of this bill possible!

Three things you can do today to help right now:
  • Email my colleagues on City Council (a second time, if you have already emailed) and tell them to pass our move-in fee legislation with no exemptions! Here’s an easy link to email Councilmembers.
  • Join Washington CAN's Thunderclap campaign, scheduling Twitter, Facebook, and/or Tumblr messages in support of this legislation for noon on Monday (click the link for more information on how it works).
  • Come to City Hall MONDAY to sign up to speak during public comment before the vote! RHAWA will try to pack Council Chambers, so show up early and sign up at 1 PM if you can.
