Dear Neighbor,

Thank you to those who have already filled out the survey. For those who have not filled it out yet - there is still time. The survey will be open until Monday morning (2/8/21) at 9:00 am.

Please feel free to forward the survey to neighbors who live or work near the Leary Triangle. We look forward to sharing the next steps with you soon.

Sincerely,
Dan

You are receiving this email because you live, work, or have shared your experiences regarding what has become to be known as the, “Leary Triangle” (Leary Way NW, 9th Ave NW, and NW Leary way).

In 2015, neighbors of the triangle began organizing to create a community gathering space at the triangle. Since then, unmanaged homeless encampments have populated the space, been removed, and returned – a cycle that has occurred multiple times. Neighbors continue to organize to make the Leary Triangle a space that everyone can use.

Conversations with many stakeholders and different city departments have previously not been centralized around one table with a dedicated facilitator. As your District 6 Councilmember I am dedicating myself and my staff to facilitating this work to centralize conversations and ensure everyone is working together in the same direction.
People have shared many different ideas about how to use the space, and we would like to get your feedback about how you would like to see the Leary Triangle used. Would you be willing to take a short survey to share your views?

Take the Leary Triangle Survey

Currently, an unmanaged encampment occupies the space. As Danny Westneat wrote, we need to utilize the Just Care framework to connect people living in the Leary Triangle to shelter and housing resources so that we can implement the changes we want to see.

Thank you for taking time to provide valuable feedback about what your vision for the Leary Triangle. For full transparency, this is a non-scientific and non-binding poll. Your participation is important to inform our next steps. If we identify barriers to implementing these ideas, we will communicate which proposals can or cannot move forward. Your participation provides critical feedback that I can take to the Mayor and City Departments to advocate and realize your ideas.

Thank you again for taking the time to make your voice heard. Please email me at Dan.Strauss@seattle.gov if you have any questions about this survey.

Best Regards,

--Dan
