Get involved in your university this year!
Welcome to the 2016-2017 year!
The Office of the SSMU Vice-President (University Affairs) is your resource for university advocacy, policy development, and academic affairs at McGill. This listserv is intended to provide you with opportunities to get involved, provide feedback, and make use of tools for navigating the university bureaucracy as either a student representative or student-at-large.

Be sure to like the SSMU University Affairs Facebook page for updates on exciting advocacy initiatives, research projects, and current events, and look forward to a new University Affairs website coming soon.
My name is Erin Sobat and I'm excited to be your SSMU Vice-President (University Affairs) this year!

McGill University Committee Representatives
Ever wanted to see how McGill works behind the scenes? Passionate about campus issues like student services, equity, or sustainability? Have a great idea to positively impact students? Then consider applying as an undergraduate representative on a university committee! More information can be found here.
SSMU Equity Committee
If you are passionate about social justice and want to address the intersectional challenges that students face around racism, sexism, classism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and a range of other equity issues, then join the SSMU Equity Committee! This is a rewarding opportunity to learn and un-learn in a non-judgmental, anti-oppressive space while educating and advocating for positive changes at McGill. Apply here.
SSMU Library Improvement Fund Committee
The Library Improvement Fund Committee (LIFC) is seeking members-at-large! With approximately $700,000 to allocate each year, this committee is an exciting opportunity to provide a voice for active change in our libraries. Responsibilities include gathering feedback, developing proposals, and attending bi-weekly meetings. We need YOU to turn student ideas into reality. Apply here.
SSMU University Affairs Committee
The University Affairs Committee (UAC) is responsible for overseeing the SSMU's research and policy advocacy activities. This year, projects may include contributing to the SSMU "Know Your Rights" campaign; developing a student advocacy toolkit; and supporting the development of Faculty- and Department-level assessment policies. Apply here.
FEEDBACK
Seeking Testimony: Experiences with Academic Accommodation
SSMU is collecting testimony on students' experiences requesting accommodation for mental health, disability, and/or medical reasons. We want to hear your stories! This consultation is the first step in creating a case for an equitable, accessible, and consistent approach to accommodations across McGill. Click here to provide feedback.

First Generation Students: Perceptions and Experiences Survey
SSMU is also conducting a survey on the awareness and experiences of first generation students on campus. All McGill students are encouraged to share their perspectives for the chance to win a Pannizza gift card! Click here to access the survey.
