The McGill Mental Health Working Group has released an open letter regarding ongoing issues with insufficient and inaccessible mental health services on campus. Major changes introduced this year have not yet addressed chronic issues and have ultimately created more problems than solutions.
They are calling on the McGill administration to take the following actions in order to ensure the wellbeing of our campus community:
Address urgent concerns with Counselling & Mental Health Services;
Keep all dedicated funding in Student Services by eliminating the $650 000 in annual overhead that is deducted from this budget by the administration;
Implement a comprehensive, campus-wide, evidence-based Mental Health Strategy that addresses the spectrum of mental health needs and acknowledges the shared responsibility to create a healthier community.
If you are concerned about student mental health at McGill, sign on to the letter here.
