Pump the brakes. Break the cycle.
When we don't listen to people of color, we deny their voices.
When we deny their voices, we deny their right to participate in democracy.
When we deny space to speak, we deny the right to exist.
To communicate, the speaker must elocute, the listener must comprehend.
To comprehend, the listener must understand.
Understanding requires empathy. Empathy needs trust. Trust, follow-through and forgiveness.
Make space for people to speak. Seek to comprehend.
Give power to their voices. Act on their pleas.
Oppose people who deny space.
Fight like hell against those who use violence to deny space.
Learn deeper truths, build greater equity.
Truth and equity are infinite, inside you and in the community.
In and out, never cease filling space with more light.
