Nurses and midwives planning industrial action
Nurses and Midwives in major metropolitan and country public hospitals are considering industrial action in the absence of an offer from the SA Government following negotiations for a new Enterprise Agreement which ended in July 2016.
"We had ’in-principle’ agreement on major issues that we had raised which had the potential of improving patient safety through safe staffing levels and providing a fair deal for nurses and midwives through job security and conditions, including a 2.5% wage increase for each year of the 3 year agreement” said ANMF (SA Branch) CEO/Secretary, Adj Assoc Professor Elizabeth Dabars AM.
On September 1 2016 - the day the current Nursing/Midwifery (South Australian Public Sector) Enterprise Agreement 2013 ended – the ANMF (SA Branch) was advised that the Government was unable to provide a formal offer for consultation with members.
“There remains no timeframe in which an offer will be provided and there is a lack of clarity on a number of key issues for our members” said Elizabeth Dabars. “A number of meetings with our members at their workplaces have now been conducted with a strong vote to endorse industrial action commencing on Monday September 26 2016.”
Nurses and midwives in the following hospitals and health services have resolved to participate:
Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre, Repatriation General Hospital, Noarlunga Health Services, Modbury Hospital, Lyell McEwin Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, ,Hampstead Centre, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, James Nash House, Glenside Hospital.
Tumby Bay, Elliston, Port Augusta, Whyalla, Leigh Creek, South Coast, Mount Gambier, Bordertown, Penola, Oodnadatta.
Further feedback from ANMF (SA Branch) members will be gathered at other sites in coming days.
