Hello travellers,

It's STILL all about Coronavirus

Gosh, rescue flights, more deaths, Australians in detention camps. Last week was still all about Coronavirus.

It just shows how integral airlines and the travel industry are to the world these days. Along with the bushfires, the outbreak of the Coronavirus is going to have a big impact on Australia and the world's economy this year, if not for the next few years.

I am amazed at the way China has been able to shut down travel at a peak time of year in order to isolate - what is it - 35 million people?

What happened last week?

Qatar pulled its China flights due to crewing issues, and with so many other airlines pulling out or restricting China flights, I put together a multi-airline guide

In other news, there was a crash in Istanbul which resulted in over 50 injuries, and one post-accident death. Virgin Australia also made some changes to the relationship between their Velocity loyalty scheme and the rideshare company Ola. Basically, it was a big raspberry to Qantas/Uber tie-up who reduced the points given by ignoring a customer's Frequent Flyer status.

What's coming up?

I'm back in Adelaide for most of next week. I intend to do some catch-up work on reviews.

Oh, and I have some travel planning to do. Anyone for some accommodation recommendations for Bali?

You can catch up on posts from last week below. Until next week . . .

Happy Travels,

Stephen

By 2paxfly on Feb 06, 2020 09:31 am

Airline and government reaction to the outbreak of Coronavirus have been all over the place. Some have acted swiftly, while others have been tardier. Some have suspended/cancelled all flights to China, while others have cancelled some routes and maintained others. Where are we up to? So, I thought it might be a good idea to […]

By 2paxfly on Feb 02, 2020 05:18 pm

In September 2019, LATAM announced that Delta airlines were taking a 20% stake in them, and that presumably prompted the notice of severing membership of OneWorld. LATAM also abandoned the negotiations for a joint venture with its OneWorld partner American Airlines. At that time, the proposed date LATAM would sever its ties with OneWorld was […]
