Qantas First Class Lounge, Sydney

Hello travellers,

Finally, the Qantas First Class Lounge in Sydney will open on Monday 19 April.

Everybody welcome !

And you won't just need to be Qantas Platinum, or OneWorld Emerald, they are letting in anyone who has the remotest qualification to get into a Qantas lounge.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

Broken Exit door, Terminal 3, Sydney

What happened last week?

I got a bit cranky and complained about a broken-for-2-years exit door at Sydney Airport, Terminal 3 and some non-functioning gate signage from last century at Melbourne Airport.

Qantas announced it is going to open its Australian First Class lounges as of Monday 19 April, when the travel bubble opens with New Zealand. Virgin announced it was putting on the runway 10 more 737s and getting 300 odd staff back to work. Qantas bragged about soon achieving 80% of domestic capacity.

Plaza Premium announced it was divorcing from loyalty schemes Priority Pass and Lounge Key.

What's coming up?

A short hop to Melbourne next week for me.

I owe you a bunch of hotel reviews - so I'll try to deliver some of those next week.

Until then, mask up, keep your distance, and if you can - get vaccinated.

Stephen

Melbourne Airport: You need to do better than this signage

By 2paxfly on Apr 17, 2021 01:58 pm

And while I am in cranky-pants mode . . . Gate Signage How the hell am I meant to know what Qantas flight I’m catching – or even what gate I’m at with this kind of broken signage? (hint on gate number – look on far right of picture) Besides the fact that the rest […]

Sydney Airport: who is responsible for fixing this security door?

By 2paxfly on Apr 17, 2021 01:39 pm

Now, file this under ‘petty’, but every time I come through Sydney Airport – my home airport, one of the security exit doors is always out of order. That security exit marked ’33’ has been out of order for the whole duration of COVID-19 – over a year, which is almost forgivable. But it didn’t […]

Plaza Premium: divorcing from Priority Pass and Lounge Key

By 2paxfly on Apr 16, 2021 02:32 pm

Plaza Premium is the owner and operator of 120+ airport lounges around the world. They market access to these lounges directly to the public, via airlines, and as a loyalty benefit to credit card holders through ‘reseller’ partners such as LoungeKey and Priority Pass. It looks like Plaza Premium, LoungeKey and Priority Pass are no […]

QANTAS: have they stopped featuring the hateful SKYNEWS in their lounges?

By 2paxfly on Apr 16, 2021 01:20 pm

I’m in Adelaide, awaiting my flight to Melbourne on my way back to Sydney (long way round because: Double Status Credits!). I just glanced up at the TV monitors while waiting for my butter chicken and cheese plate. Notice anything different? Yes, that’s right, no more hateful Murdoch owned SkyNews on the TV. All the […]

Qantas: International First Lounges to re-open 19 April – Official

By 2paxfly on Apr 15, 2021 11:34 am

The rumor is true. Qantas is re-opening its fabulous first lounges in Melbourne and Sydney and its International Lounge in Brisbane to co-incide with the launch of the trans-Tasman bubble requiring no quarantine when travelling between Australia and New Zealand in either direction. “If you’re making a comeback, you should do it in style. That’s […]

Virgin Australia: 10 more planes and 220 staff back to work

By 2paxfly on Apr 15, 2021 08:56 am

Things seem to be going well for CEO Jayne Hrdlicka and Virgin Australia. Alan Joyce might be claiming to have swiped 30% off their business customers, but Virgin is doing well enough to lease 10 new Boeing 737-800 aircraft and return 220 staff – mainly ex-international and now-defunct Tiger Airways back into the reborn airline. […]

At a CAPA Centre for Aviation online event today, Alan Joyce is reported to have been talking up Qantas ability to commence international travel at the end of October this year. “We haven’t walked away from October. … We are getting ready and still planning, and it’s our best guess at the end of October […]

QANTAS: First Class International lounge to open on 19 April?

By 2paxfly on Apr 14, 2021 09:14 am

According to ET, who obviously have better sources than I do, Qantas will announce on Thursday (15 April 2021) its schedule for the opening of their international lounges. The prediction is they will coincide with the creation of the Trans-Tasman bubble between Australia and New Zealand on 19 April – that’s next Monday! The speculation […]

COVID-19: “If the whole country were vaccinated, you couldn’t just open the borders”

By 2paxfly on Apr 14, 2021 09:01 am

That’s the Australian Health Minister, Greg Hunt, dashing hopes that Australia’s borders will open as soon as the majority of Australians have received their first vaccine jab, as quoted in the SMH. He just made 36,000 Australians stranded overseas very angry. And tourist operators arn’t very happy either. Watch as Greg Hunt, or another minister […]
