Hello travellers,
The big news this week is the arrival of the Pfizer vaccine in Australia aboard a Singapore Airlines A350-900 flight.
Hotel Quarantine - never out of the news
It appears that Hotel Quarantine is the constant whipping boy of the media and epidemiologists.
It is never out of the news - whether it be other countries adopting the approach, or cases of transmission from international travellers to staff.
I would just like to say for the record, that given the flow of quarantine arrivals, and the pay, training and PPE provision to hotel workers, we should be celebrating the low transmission rates and the diligence of these employees.

What happened last week?
Melbourne came out of lockdown on Wednesday.
New Zealand suspended the travel bubble with Australia, returning traveller hotel capacity was restored (except in Victoria), the Pfizer vaccine arrived in Australia, Virgin announced the opening of its new Adelaide lounge, and we remind you not to book Jetstar flights through the Qantas website.
Oh, and I booked and cancelled and booked and cancelled and booked some more flights, which I may have to cancel.

What's coming up?
It looks like the rollout of vaccines world wide, but particularly in Europe and America will change the recovery pattern of the travel industry.
The focus has been on travel passports etc, but the real story that the widespread vaccination of populations may have, is the re-birth of confidence in the travel, hotel and airline industries. And that renewed confidence is what will bring back international travel.
Unfortunately, that confidence is not likely to return - along with the opening of our international borders - until at least October this year, when most Australians will have been vaccinated.
