The UBCO motorsports team has been hard at work this semester, starting to build our new car the OG18. We are officially registered for FSAE Lincoln that will take in June 2018. There will be many hours of design, build and preparation in the next 7 months for the OG18 to be a contender in the competition. Fortunately, the team is currently on schedule and has made a lot of progress this year.
OG18 Updates
1) The chassis is ready to go! A big thanks to VR3 Engineering for cutting, bending the 4130 Chromoly tubing and RH Race Cars for welding the frame. This years chassis is smaller, lighter and has better packaging for the drivetrain than our previous model. It will also feature torsion bar suspension rather than the traditional coil over suspension.
2) The chosen engine for the OG18 is the Honda CBR 600.  It is low millage and has the added benefit of not having a hole in the crankcase like our previous motor.
3) The new electronic shifter included in the OG18 decreases the time between gear changes to around 35 milliseconds. The elimination of the mechanical shifter and linkages allows the driver to keep their hands on the wheel at all times and reduces the overall weight.   This addition was made in hopes to improve the drivability of the car.

Team Building Events

An important part of any team is getting to know your team members. This year, UBCO motorsports will be hosting at least one team building event a month such as test days, BBQ’s, skiing, etc. Check out the photos from our events this semester!

UBCO School of engineering

An exciting addition to our club this year is our partnership with the school of engineering’s capstone project. Capstone is a 4th year class that each engineering student must take to graduate. This project is a collaboration with a group of students and industry to foster students’ innovation. We are excited that for the 2017/2018 school year, one of the capstone teams will be implementing a rear subframe to our car!

Additionally, this past weekend UBCO motorsports team attending the school of engineering showcase. This was great way to promote our club and display the progress on the OG18.
We would like to thank Daniel family foundation, Swiftsure foundation and all of our sponsors for making UBCO Motorsports possible!
