This blog includes reports on the free, mobile spay/neuter clinics held weekly in Puerto Vallarta and neighboring towns.  In 2018, a total of 5,792 cats and dogs were sterilized and treated for fleas, ticks, parasites and mange, if present.  Information is also provided regarding animal adoptions and other efforts to help the pet overpopulation in the area of the Bay of Banderas.  In Mexico, 70% of all cats and dogs live on the street, which accounts for the highest number of homeless animals in Latin America.

WINTER WAVES

Rocks rattle and rumble as the high waves of winter roll over them, and then recede back into the bay.  White-crested waves crash against the seawall, spraying water, small rocks and pebbles onto the malecón.  Large rocks almost completely cover Rosita beach, which was sandy only a few months ago.

EXCURSIÓN EN PANGA - SE VE LAS MARIETAS -  1/13/18 -
FOTOS DE BALLENAS- DR. CLAUDIA

Far out into the bay within sight of the Marieta islands, a chance surface encounter with two adult humpback whales and a newborn calf. Swimming peacefully next to them were dolphins, two of them giving exuberant breaches into the air.  We stayed near the whales for some time, sharing air and water and sky, watching their dorsal fin slapping as they lay on their backs,  and listening to their calls and loud whooshes of exhaled air.  It is here in this panga, in this bay and in these moments that Wordsworth´s lines come to mind..."... I have felt
a presence that disturbs me with the joy of elevated thoughts;a sense sublime
Of something far more deeply interfused,
Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns,
And the round ocean and the living air,
And the blue sky, and in the mind of man..."

This panga excursion guided and donated by Karla de Peña (Boca Divers) was by invitation of board member Trisha Aljoe, who bid on it at the April PEACEAnimals online auction.

CLINIC IN PITILLAL JANUARY 9-12 - It was our second visit to this serene, leafy park located behind the new Woolworth´s.
CASA ATRÁS DE WOOLWORTH´S - PITILLAL

Directly in back of the large store and next
to the bike/pedestrian path is a humble, tin-roofed home where roosters crow back and forth to other roosters living across the quiet, tree-lined river.

Surgeries take place in an unused government building originally intended as a combine office/café with outdoor dining.  At 8 AM, the clinic was full.  Silvia Alvarez, head of the local government´s Bien Estar Animal was there with three rescue puppies.  If interested in adopting, contact Silvia.  sirula69@gmail.com

ALEJANDRA CON "TANITA" - PITILLAL 1/9/19
Also there, the very pretty Alejandra Vargas,  whom I had met at the clinic in Coapinole.  She had taken an emaciated female Chihuahua home with her because its very neglectful owner no longer wanted his pet. "Cleo" had been hit by a car and unable to put weight on one of her legs.  The vets chose not to spay the dog because of its low weight and fragile condition.  Alejandra´s surprise was a solitary female puppy born weeks later.  Four months old now, lovely little "Tanita" is for adoption. So is Cleo, her mama. Contact:  vargas222alej@hotmail.com
