Here’s your weekly dose of FIVER FRIDAY, a list of what I've found useful or informational this week concerning education.
Upcoming Professional Development--
The 8th annual KernCUE Tech Fest is happening on Saturday, October 8th at Tevis Junior High. Please mark your calendar! If you're interested in being a presenter, please visit this Google Form. I highly encourage all teachers and principals reading this FIVER FRIDAY to consider presenting! If you'd like to attend the event, please visit the KernCUE website.
Book I'm reading--
I just started Visible Learning for Literacy by Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey, and John Hattie. If you're not familiar with Hattie's work, this book is a great primer. If you've had the chance to read Visible Learning or Visible Learning for Teachers, Visible Learning for Literacy is a nice extension into the effective strategies that can be used to accelerate student learning. If you're a school leader, it might be a good way to introduce Hattie's work to your staff.
Book I'm reading slowly--
Rules for a Knight by Ethan Hawke (yes, that Ethan Hawke) is a small but wonderful book filled with practical insight and wisdom. It's one of those books you read slowly in order to absorb every page. I intend to read this to my kids when they're a bit older, and it's the perfect book to gift to friends and family.
Article I'm reading--
To Help Kids Thrive, Coach Their Parents
Quote I'm pondering--
“I love quotes…but, in the end, knowledge has to be converted to action or it’s worthless.” – Tony Robbins
