Community Fair at TWIGS

This year's Community Fair will be held at TWIGS Community Gardens on 16th March 2016 from 11am to 3pm. The fair will present a great opportunity to meet a wide range of groups in Swindon all of which provide key services to support both individuals and families.

Groups attending include:

Big Breakfast + which provides the homeless of Swindon with a hot breakfast and access to outreach workers who give advice on housing, health, drugs and alcohol abuse, mental health and benefits.

Enrych Swindon & Wiltshire enables adults with a physical disability across the Swindon Borough enjoy leisure and learning activities through volunteer partnerships.

Swindon Advocacy Movement is a user-led independent advocacy service which empowers people with learning disabilities in Swindon.

Small Charity Week 2016

Small Charity Week aims to raise the profile of small charities and will take place between June 13th-18th. Now in its seventh year, Small Charity Week has become one of the major features of the UK charity calendar. Events will be happening around the country to engage policymakers, the media and the general public to support in the work of the UK’s vibrant small charity sector.

Do You Need Help With Your IT Issues?


A local business is piloting a scheme to provide local charities with IT support and is looking for charities to take part. The scheme will provide an electronic mailbox through which charities can submit questions and queries. These will be passed to a volunteer with skills to help.

The range of skills potentially available include computer support, databases, website creation and design, software development, plus many more.

Library Services in Swindon

Libraries are a valued community service in Swindon. However, the way that people are using libraries is changing. Swindon Borough Council wants to make sure that the residents are able to access the best possible library service in the context of a very challenging financial climate.

The Council wants to hear your thoughts, ideas and priorities for libraries in Swindon to help develop new approaches to library service that responds to the needs of local residents within the financial constraints.

Head of Finance at Community First

Community First are looking to appoint a highly experienced and dynamic finance professional to support the Chief Executive and the Board through the next phase of growth and development of the organisation. The Head of Finance is a key post within the organisation and is also the Company Secretary.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified accountant, good team player committed to the charity sector. You will have the ability to bring strategic financial management to multiple and complex areas of work. A recent working knowledge of charity finance is essential.

Job Title: Head of Finance
Hours: 22.5 Hours per week
Salary: circa £35,000 – £40,000 per annum pro rata, depending on experience plus 7% pension contribution
Location: Devizes

Café Conversations

South West Foundation would like to invite you to attend a free Café Conversations networking event for members of the Voluntary and Community Sector based in Swindon and Wiltshire. You are welcome to join for a light informal lunch and the opportunity to meet with other members of the Voluntary Sector. The event will be looking at ‘hot topics’ for the sector and the Foundation hopes to record some of your views.

Vision 4 Wroughton's 2016 Annual Review will take place on 16th March. This year they will be reviewing the aims and structures of the group as well as planning the organising village events including the Duck Race and Summer Picnic.

Just Act is an online resource from the Community Development Foundation, helping anyone involved with a community project to find information. The 10 Steps on their website go through the key stages of running a project, and the Knowledge Bank has information for different types of projects.

LawWorks develops resources which provide general information for not-for-profit organisations on specific areas of law, to enable them to spot and avoid potential legal problems. Theses resources include Free Talks. Free Talks are short online videos about common legal issues faced by small not-for-profit organisations. The videos are all free to watch and aim to help you when making important decisions.
