The Ontario Curling Council is proud to partner with Team Rachel Homan to deliver their first ever virtual Junior Curling Camp October 20/21/22 at 7pm EST.

Due to the Covid pandemic situation the team was unable to deliver their in person camp and missed the opportunity to connect with youth curlers!  This virtual camp will be broken into 3 separate sessions to be delivered in 90 minute segments.   Register for one or more sessions OR pick all three for a discount.  All are welcome, there are no regional restrictions for campers!

In order to access the virtual sessions participants will ideally need access to a web accessible computer.  Mobile devices may work but are not recommended.  Also, it’s recommended that participants use a headset with the computer to get the best sound experience.  Sessions will be delivered as a “Join.Me” meeting.   No special software is required but participants may choose to download the app.  More information about Join.Me can be found on their website.

OCC Team Camp - October 31, 2020

The Ontario Curling Council is happy to announce that we are hosting a team camp at the KW Granite Club in Waterloo, October 31, 2020.

Any team configuration is welcome including juniors, seniors, mixed, wheelchair etc. Due to Covid restrictions teams are restricted to four players plus one team coach. Spaces are limited to adhere to Covid restrictions. The camp is a “Build Your Own” agenda with no required components. Each team will get two 90 minute on ice sessions, two 90 minute off ice sessions and a pre-arranged scrimmage game to conclude the day. There will be Provincial Coaches in attendance who you may choose to work with. Sessions with these coaches will need to be reserved in advance of the camp once your team has registered but it is NOT required for you to work with the Provincial Coaches at all if you choose not to. Food will NOT be provided and teams are encouraged to bring their own. The camp will run from 8:30am to 5:30pm.

Webinars

Don’t miss out on the OCC Webinar Series!  We’re in full swing with a number of sessions on the books already! Names such as Jill Officer, Cathy Gauthier, Rick Lang and Krista McCarville are all scheduled with various interesting topics!  Don’t miss out, register for one today.

Inside Sheet with DJ Brooks

Three episodes in and what have we learned?  Well, a lot actually.  We know that Krista McCarville has some really great family support for instance AND she seems to get along very well with her neighbours.  If you haven’t yet seen The Inside Sheet, check it out!  Coming up, we have John Epping and the great father / son duo of Glenn and Scott Howard!  We need your questions though.  Consider asking a question that we can pose to one of these stars!  Video questions are very welcome!  Episodes will air on our Youtube channel (handy access provided below!) and on our social media platforms.

Level 1 Ice Tech Update

The process for Level 1 Ice Technician training and certification has CHANGED!  Participants will now be required to complete the World Curling Federation’s “Ice Technical Level 1” online course through the World Curling Academy.  Level 1 Practical “In Person” evaluation sessions will be scheduled to complete the certification process.

Ontario’s Ice Technicians are amongst the best in the world. The Ice Technician certification courses were developed with help from Ontario Instructors to ensure that this tradition continues. It should be noted that a period of practical experience obtained in the club and ongoing education through seminars and workshops is what truly makes an excellent Ice Technician.

Once the process is completed, the Ice Technician receives certification from Curling Canada.

Certificates of Completion will be issued by Curling Canada once all components have been completed.  Please note that we are currently transitioning our courses to the new update.  The Level 1 at the McIntyre in Timmins will be held as before and there is no World Curing Academy pre-requisite for this course only.  The Level 1 session at KW will be a practical assessment and participants will be required to have completed the WCA Level 1 Ice Tech Course prior to attending.

Thanks Bobby!!
This month, our question is:

Considering that yelling is actually classified as a moderate risk activity with Covid, how is your team planning on handling the house to sweeper communications on shots?
