Wishing Tree Planting Ceremony

Fairvilla Boutique invites Community members to attend the planting and dedication of their Wishing Tree, featured at the Space Coast Pride Festival, at Manatee Sanctuary Park, 701 Thurm Boulevard, Cape Canaveral, Florida, 32920, on Monday, September 30, 2019, at 2:00 p.m.
The installation of the Wishing Tree is a joint effort between Fairvilla Boutique, Keep Brevard Beautiful and the City of Cape Canaveral.
The tree will be a rainbow eucalyptus, and is intended to provide future generations with a place where dreams and hope can flourish, as well as a pleasing and striking addition to the existing beauty of Manatee Sanctuary Park. Fairvilla Boutique is grateful for the support of the City of Cape Canaveral and of Keep Brevard Beautiful in facilitating a moment of peace and wonder for all to enjoy.
Wishing tree concepts appear in many cultures throughout the world, and Fairvilla Boutique is proud to bring this concept to the 2019 Space Coast Pride Festival (September 28, Eau Gallie Arts District) and then to Manatee Sanctuary Park. At the festival, attendees will write wishes on slips of paper, which will be tied to the tree and displayed as a symbol of hope and unity for Brevard’s LGBTQ community. Afterwards, the wishes will be sustainably recycled, and the tree will be transported to Manatee Sanctuary Park in advance of the dedication ceremony. After a short comment from each of the three partners making the tree planting possible, the tree will be situated in the prepared spot, and a representative from each partner will symbolically shovel earth to cover the roots, at which point the City of Cape Canaveral’s beautification specialists will finalize the planting and ensure the tree’s placement.

New EV Chargers at City Hall

Two additional electric vehicle (EV) charging stations have been installed at City Hall (100 Polk Avenue); bringing the total number of EV charging ports at City of Cape Canaveral parks and facilities to twelve — six of which are at City Hall alone! #GreatScott

These new Level-2 dual plug charging stations are positioned to reach three spots each — due to their 25-foot cord lengths. This means that the six parking spaces are EV ready, but not exclusive to electric vehicles since both gas and electric vehicles can park in these spots.

The dual-port charging stations at Manatee Sanctuary Park (701 Thurm Boulevard) and Banana River Park (901 Puerto Del Rio Drive), the Public Library (201 Polk Avenue) and one of the existing EV ports at City Hall nearest SR A1A are designated as “EV Only” spaces.

Cigarette Receptacles Across the Community

In an effort to reduce the amount of one of the most littered items on the planet, the City of Cape Canaveral will be installing 50 new cigarette receptacles across the Community, including at all beach crossovers, covered bus shelters, parks and City facilities. These tough metal, lockable receptacles came freely to the City through “Keep America Beautiful”, a Connecticut-based nonprofit whose mission is to “inspire and educate people to take action every day to improve and beautify their community environment."

But wait, there's more! The City has become a member of Terracycle’s cigarette butt recycling program, a New Jersey-based company who recycles items not usually recycled in curbside bins. Once full, City Staff will collect cigarette butts from each receptacle, package them and send them off (free of charge) to Terracycle where they will be recycled into new usable goods such as benches and pallets. Check out Terracycle’s website below to see how the process works. Anyone can sign up to become a member of their various recycling programs.

Please do not throw finished cigarette butts onto the ground or the beaches. Trillions of butts are littered every year and that is not an exaggeration. They are harmful to wildlife, a fire hazard and can leach harmful chemicals into the ground and water. Like you would dispose of any other waste item, just place them in the appropriate receptacle.
