Our prize-winning stand at Himley Hall, Dudley.

Welcome to the September edition of our newsletter.

The weather was not kind on the day of our BBQ at the Brooklands in Shrewsbury. Nonetheless, we had 9 cars and 16 people attending. The meal was eaten indoors. Thanks to the Brooklands for hosting this event.

On August Bank Holiday Sunday some members had an enjoyable run out to the Welsh coast.

On 4th September the Region won again at the last show at Himley Hall, Dudley, please see picture above. This year we have attended five shows won three best club stands. Thanks to all those involved .

What was to be the last Pride and Joy meeting for this year was held on 7th September at High Ercall village hall. A number of members attended but not all were in their Jaguars, so we saw the Morgan belonging to Peter Jones (see photograph) and Peter Sutcliffe-Brown arrived in an MGF. Due to the popularity of this event there may be another in October and on Boxing Day or New Year's Day. There are more pictures of this and previous events on our Facebook page.

The popular Jaguars at The Castle event at Warwick Castle is on Sunday 11th September. Some of our members are attending. All will need to arrive early to gain entry to the site. News and hopefully pictures of this event next month.

A reminder that Jaguar Spares Day is on 9th October at Stoneleigh.

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Show is on at the NEC in Birmingham from 11th to 23rd November.
See www.necclassicmotorshow.com

We have been invited by our friends from Central Region to hear a talk by Peter Leake on his experiences of over 40 years with British Leyland and JLR. The talk takes place on Thursday 24th November at 8;00pm at Hamstead Social Club, Old Walsall Road, B42 1HY. There is a charge of £5 per person which includes a light buffet. Contact Geoff Johnston asap if you would like to attend telephone: 07956 150161.

We are close to the end of the show season, the autumn/winter will give us opportunity to enjoy a Sunday lunch or two plus maybe a Christmas meal. A new year event is being arranged by Kay Searles. There will be more information on these events later. If you would like to suggest a venue for a Sunday lunch or organise something, please do so. I will gladly publish details here.

Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival.

Ray Searles advises that planning is now well advanced for the Royal Windsor Jaguar Festival to be held in the grounds of Windsor Castle on 5th & 6th May 2017.

Below is the link to book hotels via the Clubs official hotel partner the choices are the Beaumont or the Marriott  both are around the £135 per person mark, for 2 nights including reserved parking area and full English breakfast.

Here is the web address:

There are Premier Inns available nearby, the Slough one is 3.8 miles from the Castle and still has rooms available for £51 per night as of late August. Some Regional members have already booked the Premier Inn, Slough for 5/6/7th May. You are welcome to join them or make your own arrangements.

You would be well advised to log onto the JEC website www.jec.org.uk to “register” your interest as the Club is sending out email bulletins with the latest news and announcements to keep up to date. You do not have to pre-register to take part, BUT when the booking forms get issued you will have to pre-book to attend. Due to the security issues around Windsor Castle we will not be taking money on the day and only cars and passengers who pre-book will be allowed to take part.

Because of the proximity to Heathrow there are of course lots of hotels in the area  but we expect this to be very well attended, over 1300 cars are already pre-registered with a great deal of interest from overseas visitors.

As this will likely be the most prestigious event the Club have organised we hope that Shropshire and Welsh Borders can as usual put on its fantastic display.  Ray will do all he can from centre to support.

There will be a buffet social get together organised by the Club for the evening of Friday  5th at the Castle Hotel Windsor, and on the 6th after the parade and displays on the Long Walk we will be retiring to Windsor Racecourse for an informal evening of food and entertainment.

Ray will keep us informed.

Breakfast Club.

I recently attended the Midlands Breakfast Club meeting at the British Ironwork Centre near Oswestry. This is an excellent venue and well worth a visit anyway but even better if there is a Breakfast Club meeting. The next one is on Sunday 23rd October. Entry is free and breakfast is available (you pay for food and drink). If you want to park together you need to arrive together. You cannot turn right in to the site if approaching from on the A5 from Shrewsbury and need to drive up to the next roundabout and return on the A5.

My three pictures, below, show some of the static exhibits and two interesting vehicles that were present on the day. The Hillman Hunter has a BMW engine and the Humber Super Snipe was a particularly fine example. There were only two Jaguars preset; my XK and a white F-TYPE Coupe.
