The WAVES project is a collaborative research and training network comprising twelve leading international universities, research centers and three industrial partners, gathering participants with expertise in the interdisciplinary field of acoustic/elastic wave propagation and wave-based imaging and monitoring.
WAVES is funded by the European Union under the "H2020 - MSCA - ITN - 2014" program for a duration of 4 years (Jan. 2015 - Dec. 2018).
As fifteen graduate students have begun working on their respective thesis projects in the past few months, WAVES has entered its most interesting and challenging phase. All projects involve close collaboration between different partners of the network, and exchanges across disciplines that are traditionally separated: during the second year of our collaborative work, it will be essential to strengthen our links through individual exchanges, and by participation of students, project supervisors and partners to several planned meetings and workshops. At this point, four WAVES-related events are planned for 2016: a short workshop at EAGE in Vienna (May 29th); a short course on "Advanced geophysical imaging in complex media", held at TU Delft (tentative dates: June 20th to July 1st); the 2nd WAVES Workshop, also in or near Delft, co-organized by TU Delft and INSERM Lyon (tentative dates: September 2nd to 5th); and the crucial "Mid-Term Review meeting", where the European Union representatives will evaluate our work, to be held here in Paris sometime between November 21st and December 2nd. We are now launching this newsletter as an additional tool to keep track of what is happening in the network and exchange ideas. The next number is planned in a couple of months: email me (email@example.com) or Alexia (firstname.lastname@example.org), or make a post on our Facebook or Twitter accounts, if you have an event to be signaled, a finding to be shared, or comments on what we are trying to do.
