February - Board news update...

Last week our Board had the first meeting for the year. Besides electing the Board Chairperson some of the other major items that were discussed were:
  • Future school planning development around the roll and classroom options were discussed by the board. The question was raised whether it was appropriate to investigate looking at adding a Year 7-8 class option to our school. It was decided that before any further investigation took place a Parent Survey would be conducted to gauge interest and comment around the idea. Please click on the link below to give your opinion.
Add Year 7 - 8 survey linked here
  • The strategic aims for 2017 were confirmed. They are:
    • Aim 3 - Learning Environments: To provide quality, future focussed facilities and environmental opportunities that enhance teaching and learning in a safe, secure and innovative learning environment that are supported by annual budget and property plans.

    • Aim 2 - Multicultural Appreciation and Understanding: Through a strongly connected vision and values enact our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi by ensuring our curriculum enables full participation of all learners, protects cultural heritage and values and partners with whānau Maori so their tamariki realise success as Maori.

    • Aim 1 - Teaching and Learning: To develop collaborative and professional teaching practices across the school that provide a foundation for the delivery of an enriching, connected and blended curriculum.
  • Annual parent donation request:
Our school is completely focussed on providing our students with the best possible teaching and learning environments and programmes. A key part of helping make this possible is the continued support of our parent community with our donation request.

The Board is very mindful of the continued financial pressures on families and has accordingly kept the suggested donation levies for the 2017 year the same as the previous four years.  The donation request for 2017 is therefore set at:

$120.00 for three or more children or $30.00 a term.
$100.00 for two children or $25.00 a term
$75.00 for one child per year,

Please note that the donation request is separate from your school account which is an itemised account of actual costs incurred by your child during the year. All donations received from parents are used to specifically fund student expenses (eg bus to athletic sports; Life Education bus etc)

Payments can be made at the school office or by direct debit to: 12-3162- 0164167-00 please use your child’s name as the reference. Receipts will be issued so you can claim a third of your donation back from the IRD. Part payment can also be made over the year if that is more suitable.
  • The ratio for parents to children needed for EOTC activities. The board decided that the required ratio for EOTC excursions, as a minimum, are set at:
      1. NE-Y2 - 1:7 for general EOTC excursions & 1:4 for EOTC excursions involving water activity.

      2. Y3 - 6 - 1:9 for general EOTC excursions & 1:6 for EOTC excursions involving water activity.

Board Chairperson
