Welcome to our Newsletter for Week 6!

2016 School and Class structure

I mentioned this last week in the newsletter but wanted to 'run it again' to make sure that everyone has a chance to be informed of how 2016 planning is shaping up.

The staff continue to work together in the process of drafting the structure, the teachers and our children into their new learning groups. It is something that a lot of time, effort, thought and careful consideration goes into. We look hard at the make up of our different learning groups and how the social, academic and personal needs of our children can best be catered for within the confines of a workable structure. With some staffing changes and 470 odd student names in the mix this is no simple task. Please trust and respect the professionalism of all our staff and the leadership of our management team as we work together to get this as balanced as possible for all our children and their individual needs.

Some things I can confirm are:

- Megan Fraser has 12 months leave for 2016
- Kristin Mason is on maternity leave for 2016
- Tracey Burley will be leaving us as she is off to have her baby
- Monique Page finishes at the end of the year as she moves away to a new venture and Lavinia Llodra takes over in R 14 with a Y1/2 class
- Kathy Cole will be leaving us at the end of the year to work in Auckland
- Sarah Sherriff steps up as acting Assistant Principal for 2016
- Beth Wills steps up as acting Team Leader Y3/4 for 2016
- Two new fixed term teachers for the Y3/4 team in 2016 are Jo Dundas & Jenny Maloney
- Kim Stevens has a permanent teaching role in R6 with a Y4-6 class and will work closely with Debra Garrett in R5 who also has a Y4-6 class
- Our NE team begins the year with three teachers (Amanda, Jodie, Kylie) and are joined later in the year by Chanelle Wootton.

Te Ohanga News

Last week we were lucky enough to welcome 150 "special people" to Waipahihi School so they could share in the fun & excitement of School.
The children from Te Ohanga were so excited to show their 'special person' our wonderful school and to share the care package that they lovingly credited for them.
Thankyou so much for supporting this event.  We will put in on our calendar for next year.

Team Tauhara News Snippet (Year 3&4)

Every few days Room 16 comes in after lunch and gets stuck into our Attitude of Gratitude writing journals. This is where we write about what we're thankful for that day in school. This can be to do with our class learning or our free time/break activities. We celebrate together what we are grateful for by sharing our writing with our class. In Room 16 we believe being thankful is a great way for us to value our opportunities within Waipahihi School.

On Thursday 12 November, the seniors of  Waipahihi School  held a Rippa Rugby World Cup to celebrate the real World Cup and NZ's win. The pool games were close, with Mexico(Room 6) coming 3rd, Japan(Room 3) coming 4th), Wales (Room 4) placing 3rd and Samoa(Room 2) coming up as 1st. On Thursday we had the finals and what a game it was! Mexico vs Japan was so close but Japan took the title and won bronze. The grand final was Samoa vs Wales and lucky Samoa took the gold cup!
Thank you to Kevin Insley, Ricki Wigzell and Brien Wills for reffing the games.

A massive thank you to all the parents and students who turned up to the working bee today to help build our new pump track. It was great to see the results of Rooms 1 and 6 inquiry finally take shape! Eventually we hope to connect this with He Manu Whenua.
There was a great working bee on Saturday with Rooms 1 & 6 getting the Pump Track up and going!
Room 1 set off Mountain Biking at Craters Mountain Bike Park with Cath Oakfield from Bike Taupo.  We biked for about 3 hours!  What a fantastic effort from all of the students (and parents).  Lots of kids reported they had sore legs (and bums!) the next day!  We loved the new see-saws,wooden rollers, logs and other structures that have been constructed in Scrubs and Scrubs return.
