Term 1 Learning Mapping Meetings

Please NOTE that school will finish at 1pm on WEDNESDAY FEB 17

An important part of our beginning of the year is to give you the option to book an initial Learning Mapping interview with your child's teacher. This is a chance to bring last years end of year report along and for you to set some learning and social goals for the new school year.

We have again tried to put some optional flexibility into the system for families (and teachers) to choose if this is needed. Both you and the teachers have the right to request a time if one has not been booked and you (or they) think it is needed. The following dates available in Week 3 are:

Tuesday February 16 : 3.30 - 6pm
Wednesday February 17 : 1.45 - 5.45pm; 6.30 - 8pm
Thursday February 18 : 3.30 - 6pm

To access the goal setting booking site (www.schoolinterviews.co.nz) please click on the link below and enter the booking code WAKXS

(This is for all classrooms except New Entrants. They will be holding a transition to school meeting in week 5 and will also be in touch with each family throughout the term.)
Tena koutou katoa
Nga mihi ki a koutou

The second week is flying by and school life is already busy!

It was great to see a good group of parents around the school this morning at the first session of our 'Meet the teacher' sessions. The name really doesn't do it justice as this is a real chance for you to informally touch base with your child's teacher (or teachers) and to hear some of the thinking behind how your child's classroom learning programme operates and the teaching beliefs and philosophy that support it! Whether your child is in a class that is beginning to develop a more collaborative teaching journey or starting just with the 'one teacher' this is an opportunity for our staff to share a bit of why we do what we do and how we do it!

There are two more meeting times available today. They are: 3.30pm; and 5.45pm

A strong Partnership between Home and School is essential to every child's learning success.

I'm repeating this again as it is a very firm belief. A very important component of a strong learning culture in a school is the strong partnership between the learner, their parents and their teachers. Much of the research into successful learning, points to the critical role of these relationships. We see the need for open communication, respect and trust as crucial to our school being the best it can be and to seeing our children grow and thrive as learners. At Waipahihi we provide a variety of opportunities for this to occur:
  • 'Meet the Team' Evenings
  • Goal Setting Interviews
  • Newsletters and Facebook
  • School Assemblies
  • After school meetings
Please take the time to take note of the initial opportunities that are detailed below and to make them a priority for your connection with your child's learning journey.

Next week are our Learning Mapping sessions. These are detailed above. Please take the time to book a time. If you can't access this site then please pop into the office to book a time.

Nga mihi

Welcome to Team Tauhara Jenny and Jo!
Hi I'm Jenny, I  have been teaching for 13 years including 5 in England and 2 in Egypt. I am really excited to be a part of the Waipahihi School community and looking forward to a productive year in Team Tauhara. I've been in Taupo for just over a year and still enjoy exploring new areas and spending as much time as possible swimming in that beautiful lake.

Kia ora, ko Jo Dundas toku ingoa.  I have recently graduated from the University of Canterbury and have just completed my first year of teaching at Wairakei Primary School in 2015.  I was born and bred here in Taupo  and have raised my small family here.  I have three children aged 18, 16 and 8 years of age.  I am looking forward to a great year here at Waipahihi Primary School.

IronKidz update...
Ironkidz is our main school fundraiser.  We rely heavily on sponsorship, and are looking for cash contributions or spot prizes.  If you have a business and are able to donate, we'd love to hear from you.  You can email isa.ravenscroft@gmail.com for more information, or drop any prizes or donations into the school office.  Thanks!

I am the volunteer coordinator for Ironkidz. We are still very short on volunteers. Are you able to help on the day? They can contact me on rebecca.treston@gmail.com or ring/text 0211215399.
Thanks, Rebecca Forrest
Special thanks to 'Hellers' who supply the sausages that we use for the IronKidz BBQ!

Lost Property

Last year the Lost Property got completely out of hand and unmanageable.  About 30 large rubbish bags of clothes, shoes and towels were left at school to be donated to a Secondhand Store.
This year we are going to deal with the Lost Property more frequently  -  every fortnight.  Every 2nd Friday the Lost Property will be displayed and anything left will go to the Salvation Army Secondhand Store on Spa Road.  However, if a piece of clothing is clearly named, it will remain at school.
Please encourage your child to return home each day with the clothes, shoes, togs & towel that they took to school.
School hats can remain at school in your child's class.
Reminder: Biking to School every Wednesday - rain, hail or shine! Meet at the Silver Fish in town with the 'convoy' leaving at 8am! This is for all children (but if you are 5 years old you must have an adult biking with you).
