Athletics Day...

We had a very successful Athletics day at Owen Dalany Park this week for our Middle and Senior School Teams. This was our first time running the event offsite and it was a great way to give our children the opportunity to compete and participate at this awesome local venue. Next year we plan to have the whole school competing there!

The Waipahihi representative team is being selected for the Interschool Athletics from the results of that day and that event is scheduled for next Thursday 16 March.

Staff learning time...

A key part of a successful school is ensuring that one of our greatest assets - the teaching staff - are resourced, supported and nurtured in their teaching practice. It's not just about hoping that good learning will take place by buying devices, moving people about, changing furniture etc! There is a lot of strategic thinking, reviewing and planning that goes into what we, as a school, are working at providing for all our learners. Our staff live, breath and dream this stuff. The time, effort and mental energy that pour into their job everyday for all our children is to commended, respected and trusted!

A big part of supporting that is giving our staff time together to collaborate as a team around the key practices and strategies that support the use of the teaching tools that our school provides. This week has seen each teaching team have a day together with our contracted 'digital fluency' advisor connecting the vision of our learning with the key processes and practices that can make it happen with the tools that we have. This investment from the school supports the investment from the 2016 Ironkidz event which enabled 200 iPads and 90 chromebooks to be rolled out across our school. This type of investment is hugely important if the true potential of these devices is to be realised.

Board news update...

Our Board meet next Wednesday at 7pm. One of the items for discussion will be looking at the future focus of our school. With the residential property development beginning to take off around Botanical Heights and out towards the airport it is important we begin to consider how our school will continue to cater to the growth and educational needs of our community. One of those considerations is our school structure. If you haven't submitted a response to the survey from two weeks ago please click on the link below and do so.
  • Future school planning development around the roll and classroom options were discussed by the board. The question was raised whether it was appropriate to investigate looking at adding a Year 7-8 class option to our school. It was decided that before any further investigation took place a Parent Survey would be conducted to gauge interest and comment around the idea. Please click on the link below to give your opinion.

This year classes have created a blog which is linked to your child's seesaw account.  The purpose of the class blog is to use it as a space for whole class sharing.  You can expect to see celebrations, whole class activities and some group work here.  This allows us to refine what goes on each child's profile and will give you are more individualised picture of where you child is at.
Lost Property

We currently have a huge amount of lost property.  It will be displayed in the courtyard outside Rooms 5 & 6. Please either get your child to check, or, come in and take a look.
BASKETBALL

Are you a keen basketball player and keen to be part of a team? Games are held each Wednesday at the Events Centre beginning 5th April. Grab your entry form from the office. Payment of $40 is due by Wednesday15th March.
Every Wednesday we will be biking to School. Meet Mrs Nepia and Mrs Lynch (formally Miss Garrett) at the Silver Fish in town with our convoy leaving at 8am. Children under 6 must have a parent bike with them.

If you want to bike please collect a vest from the office.
The New Entrant Superhero Team biked with Cath from Bike Taupo on Tuesday.  We are lucky to be biking with Cath for the next two Tuesdays.  We know all about safe biking now!
