On Thursday 2 June, Team Tauhara took a stroll to the Waipahihi Marae.  We went there to learn about our Marae and Matariki.
When we arrived we were split into two groups.  One group went to explore string games and the other group sketched patterns and listened to Maori legends.  The patterns in the Wharenui told stories and we learnt about the elders in the photos.
We talked about what 'Waipahihi' means.  It means 'hot under your feet'.
We met Whaea and she told us about our Kaitiaki, Tia.  He was a magnificent explorer.  Tia is the statue that we have at our school gate.
We had a great time.  Thank you to Waipahihi Marae for having us and thank you to the wonderful parents who came and supported this trip.  We appreciate this so much.
