This morning Allied Pickford  arrived to collect the donated furniture and resources for Fiji. This was organised through Furniture for Schools who coordinate collection and delivery to whichever island needs it, which at present is Fiji. Thank you to those who donated stationery for the children in Fiji.
Board of Trustees Election
Over the next couple of months an election for parent positions on the Board of Trustees will take place.  Our Board has five parent positions which will need to be filled by early June via the election process.  Three of these positions will be for 18 months with the other two for three years.  Nominations will be called for early May with a notice published in the Taupo Times. Information and nomination forms will be posted out to all parents/caregivers (please ensure the office has your current address).

The Board is entrusted to work on behalf of all stakeholders and is accountable for the school’s performance.  Meetings are held once a month.  This is your opportunity to be involved in the governance of our school and influence in the education of our children.

If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact the Returning Officer for this election, Joanna Stinson, via the email button below.

Thank you

Last week our Student Leaders met with our Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae to share our learning journey around Kids Green Taupo with him.  All five schools were in attendance and we also caught up with our ex-students who are now at Intermediate and who are hoping to continue our work there.  Our leaders did an exceptional job of representing Waipahihi school and talking about our passion with the environment to numberous official people travelling with the Governor General.  Everyone was very impressed!
Waipahihi School also received a gift of a Kowhai tree and Kete from Sir Jerry.
Our Student Leaders will share their experiences and pass on our gift to Mr Lovelock in this weeks Assembly at 9.45am tomorrow.
Our Senior School celebrated 'crazy hair day' last Friday
Children from Team Pihanga (Years 5 & 6) took part in the annual Interschool TBall Competition organised by KiwiSport on Wednesday.  Though rain threatened, they played on and the day cleared to allow them to play four social games.  A great day was had by all.

We have made our Memorial Garden again this year to commemorate our ANZAC soldiers.  These crosses were sent to us last year by the Ministry of Education to commemorate the 100 year Anniversary.  ANZAC Day falls in the school holidays and here is some information around what is happening in Taupo this year.

Fallen servicemen and women will be remembered in dawn and civic services around the Taupo District on Anzac Day. The main ceremony will be held at the cenotaph on Tongariro Domain in Taupo at dawn. Those involved in the dawn parade will depart the Taupo RSA on Horomatangi St at 5.50am. It will travel along Horomatangi, Ruapehu, Tamamutu and Tongariro streets before arriving at the cenotaph for the 6.15am service. This is a new route to accommodate for those with mobility issues as it avoids the speed bumps of Heuheu Street.

At 10.30am, a civic service and parade will be held. Mayor David Trewavas is scheduled to take part in the service and to make a short speech.

The following roads will be closed on Friday, 25 April 2014 from 5.30am to 8am and again from 9.30am to 12pm:  Tongariro Street between Spa Road and Lake Terrace and Horomatangi Street between Ruapehu and Titiraupenga Streets

If your child is going to be away from school for any reason other than illness, the School Office now requires notification IN WRITING (either email or paper).  This is a requirement for the new Health & Safety Regulations.
If you need to take your child out of school for any reason, you MUST come and sign them out at the Office.  This new system is for your child's safety as we need to know who is in the school at all times.
Thankyou for your co-operation with this.
The Mobile Dental Unit will be situated at Waipahihi School next term.
Blue Enrolment Forms have been issued to children who are not currently enrolled with Lakes DHB.  If your child brings one of these forms home PLEASE sign it and return it to the School Office as soon as possible.
We will be seeing the classes one at a time.  Please be patient as it is a large roll and all children at school will be checked before we leave Waipahihi.
