In this special newsletter, we share with you volunteering opportunities available through GEN in a handful of communities across Europe.

All opportunities below are funded through the European Voluntary Service (EVS), are open to young people between the ages 18-30, and include accommodation, food, and a small monthly allowance.

These opportunities represent inspiring and surely empowering pathways to begin exploring European communities, or even deepen your existing relationship with GEN!

SUSTAINABLE SKILLS FOR ECOVILLAGE DEVELOPMENT
Volunteer with GEN International in Findhorn
WHAT?
Sustainable Skills for Ecovillage Development (SSED) invites you to become part of the Ecovillage Movement, explore the life of an intentional community and help our core work in the Global Ecovillage Network office based in Findhorn, Scotland.

This year will allow you to gain a deeper understanding of GEN both global network and organisation, offer the opportunity for you to sharpen key interests and skills in network-building, communications, education programme design, NGO operations, sustainable development, and of course, will offer a chance to become meaningfully engaged with one of the world's revered ecovillages, Findhorn.

Your working time is going to be split between the office and the community. Most of this time you are going to spend in the office working on the above-mentioned areas but you will also get the chance to get involved with the Findhorn community. 

You will live in the spiritual community and thriving ecovillage Findhorn. This community is a dynamic experiment to bring their founding principles of inner listening, work is love in action and co-creation with nature to everyday life and a vision for a better world. 

WHO?
This opportunity is open to German, Danish and Portuguese nationals aged between 18-30.

WHEN?
We are looking for 3 volunteers from May 2018 to participate in a 12 month European Voluntary Service placement. All accommodation, food, and travel expenses are covered.

Volunteering during the 21st RIE gathering in Los Portales, Spain

WHAT?
The project, called "Youth, Sustainable Communities and Networks" (JCSYR in Spanish) invites 10 young volunteers from the UK, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany to participate in a unique and unrepeatable experience in the eco-village Los Portales, in Andalusia (southern Spain). 

You will be joining Los Portales by organising and developing the 21st Meeting of the Iberian Eco-village Network (RIE), an annual event that brings together more than 500 people related to the eco-village movement. This unique opportunity will give you the chance to immerse your experience of ecovillages. 

WHO?
We are looking for volunteers between the ages of 18-­30 from the UK, Italy, the Netherlands and Germany with minimum A2 level of Spanish.

WHEN?
The project will take place for 35 days between 31st May 2018 and 4th July 2018. This project is classified as a short-term EVS. All accommodation, food, and travel expenses are covered.

REGENERATIVE ECOVILLAGE ACTIVITIES FOR YOUTH
Agroecology, green-building and renewable energy systems
WHAT?
Renewable Ecovillage Activities for Youth (REAY) is going to provide 4 volunteers an unforgettable experience of living and learning in an ecovillage for 6 months starting 1st May 2018.

Arterra Bizimodu aims to open the doors of their eco-community to the European youth to get motivated young people involved with the ecovillage movement through engaging them in a series of activities. The volunteers will get integrated through active collaboration in the shared tasks on a daily basis, plus they also get the chance to specialise in one of the activities.

Volunteers get to choose from two main activities: A) Agroecological Farming and B) Ecological Building and Renewable Energies.
  • With option A) you get to work at the community supported vegetable gardens following agroecological production methods.
  • With choosing option B) you will participate in the application of renewable energies such as solar and biomes and work along community members in the renovation of the main building following ecological principles.
WHO?
This opportunity is open to Italian and UK nationals aged 18-30. All accommodation, food, and travel expenses are covered.

WHEN?
You will start with Arterra on 1st May 2018 and will stay for 6 months.

CAPACITY FOR ECOVILLAGE NETWORK DEVELOPMENT
Volunteer with GEN Europe for six months
WHAT?
This twelve-month long-term EVS project was designed for young people interested in ecovillages and sustainable living, and who want to gain experience in office and networking activities as well as in community-building, self-development and work in intercultural teams. During the twelve months you will get to know the life of a Spanish ecovillage and gain experience in working at an international office!

WHO?
For this activity, we are looking for a UK citizen who has an interest in working in graphic design of
websites, newsletters, flyers and posters. You will be forming part of an international IT and
communications working group. A keen interest in open source systems and a proactive, solutions
oriented mind-set is highly valued in the search for a candidate.

If you are not a UK citizen and have interest then please still get in touch. It is possible we may be able to accommodate you.

WHEN?
ASAP! We are ideally seeking someone to start with us as soon as possible i.e. in either February or March 2018 for 12 months.  This placement is with the GEN-Europe office and team based in the ecovillage Arterra Bizimodu in Navarra, Spain
