GEN ELDERS & NEXTGEN VIRTUAL FIRECHATs 2021

The spirit of our ecovillage network  comes alive through collective learning and community building. In 2021, the members of NextGEN, the youth branch of the ecovillage network, set out to host virtual fireside chats together with the GEN Elders to celebrate this spirit.

These calls were  a space to nurture and expand our intergenerational connections at the heart of GEN (Global Ecovillage Network), and to bridge the past, present and future of the ecovillage network. The youth were invited to meet, ask questions and learn from the rich experience of GEN Elders. The elders, in return, could explore and enjoy the freshness, enthusiasm, and creativity of the younger generation. Read the full story on our website.

Harvesting experiences  from our first Permaculture Design Course!
We are celebrating the completion of GEN’s first LIVE online Permaculture Design Course (PDC)! The group was composed of 45 participants who were coming from very diverse backgrounds and living realities. The course was facilitated by Andre Soares and co-facilitator Lucy Legan, who have a longstanding history in teaching residential permaculture design courses all around the world. In this blog article we are exploring the learnings and insights of hosting a PDC online with a global community of permaculture enthusiasts!

"This has been so much more than the PDC I anticipated participating in. It has been so good to glimpse the diversity of our life situations – and our own very individual applications of permaculture. We have so much common ground too and to share on so many levels, to feel connected, is wonderful."
Louise Halloway, PDC participant

Throughout the course, each participant was working on an individual design project that was presented at the end of the course. The opportunity to interact with experienced permaculture designers from around the world gave a foundation for many participants to feel well prepared and propose ambitious projects of regeneration.

A Campaign for Water Cycle Awareness
Are you interested in learning a community-centered approach to solving our most pressing environmental crises?  One that delivers meaningful results after the first rainy season?

Then you might want to check out Water Stories and their global campaign to Bring Back Rain.  They are launching their online community platform for water restoration on February 16th with a live event.  The first of a series of videos will premiere at the event, 3 water cycle animations.  These animations vividly show the water cycle in 3 different states; the water cycle in it’s full health, the watershed death spiral that we currently find ourselves in with severe flood, drought, and fire, and the revived water cycle - proven techniques to reverse these trends.

They are hosting the event at two different times, to accommodate a global audience.  You can Join this World Premiere event here.
