Last month,  the Staff and Council of GEN International met for the first time in its current constellation to connect and build a purpose-aligned strategy for the coming year. With this process work, comes deep gratitude for all who serve this global network. Thank you, dear family, for the support and community we are able to create.

This month's newsletter is abundant with transition tools for regional sustainability, opportunities to connect and contribute, updates on COP27, events and tools from the regions, and a myriad of events from our extended network.

NOW AT GEN

GEN at COP27

The themes outlined for COP27 of mitigation, adaptation, finance, and collaboration are prevalent across socioeconomic, political, and physical barriers. This year, our delegation is being held by an impressive team from GEN Africa, bringing inspiration from the ecovillage network and building bridges.

Participating in COP27 are five delegates from GEN-Africa; Elisangela Rassul, Sonita Mbah, Renata Reck, Soraya Elhag, and Niveen Morsy.

For those of you attending, find them at the GEN Exhibit and at the Mobilising Youth & Transforming Communities event on November 14th, together with Gaia Education, Nordisk Folkecenter, and Global Youth Development Institute. You can also tune into the event from home, it will be live-streamed here.

Ecovillage Transition in Action (ETiA)

The project “Ecovillage Transition in Action” explored how ecovillages, community-led initiatives, local government, and local academic institutions can better collaborate to scale both horizontally and vertically in order to catalyse regional sustainability innovation.

Ecovillage Transition in Action is now complete and we are proud to share learnings, inspirations, outcomes, and tools created throughout the three-year international project.

Translator Needed for the Resilience Project

Are you a French and English speaker based in the Americas (for time-zone reasons) with a passion for ecovillages? We are looking for one or two people keen to help us include and learn from the coordinators of the official Togolese Ecovillage Development Programme in a GEN-wide inquiry into ecovillages and resilience in a radical climate change scenario.

We would rely on you for simultaneous translation in 2-hour zoom calls every three weeks, as well as for support with documents and results from local workshops in Togo. The calls start in November, and finish in February 2024. You'd become part of the Ecovillage Resilience 2.5+ project, and have a chance to learn from leading experts in resilience thinking, climate change, and all aspects of ecovillaging - with an online community of practice made up of people from all GEN 5 Regions, 20 ecovillages and a core team of facilitators and researchers.

Thanks to our funder, we are able to offer a small stipend for your contributions. If this sounds like something that would bring you joy - please get in touch with the Ecovillage Resilience project team at resilience@ecovillage.org

Join us for the Dances of Universal Peace Thailand Camp 2022 - a two-day-two-night of peace celebration in the spirit of community.

The Dances of Universal Peace (DUP) is a very simple practice, suitable for all people and at the same time very special, because in circles we relate and harmonize intimately: we shake hands, we share looks, we listen and we sing together. The dances set scriptures and sacred phrases from various spiritual traditions to music and movement of the world.

In October Ukrainian energy infrastructure was severely attacked. 30% of Ukraine’s power stations were destroyed and the attacks go on. It causes massive blackouts across the country. Our ecovillages that host refugees now live with everyday power supply interruptions. GEN Ukraine has launched a fundraising campaign for the project ‘Green Road of Ecovillages’ to cover the urgent needs for this winter.
