How to Say No with Respect

5 Ways to Say No
Without Offending and Closing Doors

  1. I wish I could, but here is my problem… For example: I have a prior commitment othe program manager needs to sign off on that kind of a change.
  2. That’s not possible right now. Let’s put our heads together and see what is possible.
  3. Use the word “decided.” For example: I decided to use a different program.
  4. Before I answer, tell me more about that request so I can understand what is involved.
  5. Yes, with a trade. For example: No problem, happy to do it. I will send you a cost proposal for that change in a few days.
