Business Support/Restart for PCA members
COVID_19 Secure
Everyone is aware by now that as we return to work we must show we are COVID SECURE. This is a government directive that requires all of us to sign off so we can show to customers we are following guidelines.

British Marine has had a working group running for some weeks and I as your chair have been part of the discussion group to get us back as soon as possible.
Presently the issue of charter with skippers has been an ongoing matter of some in depths discussions. Three Certifying Authorities , MECAL, IIMS and YDSA have updated that our charters could take place if we are able to follow all government guidelines , Insurers have also supported this approach if we remain compliant. The MCA have also been advising authorities that charters could go ahead under government restrictions. This is why we are seeing Fishing and Dive charters now running and many have been for weeks. We are also seeing skippered charters start to operate around the UK where they are showing reduced passenger numbers to comply with government changes on who can meet together and to cover social distancing.

British Marine recently issued a Q and A session with DEFRA covering hire boats and stated this exists for all charter vessels. The DEFRA advice is written and headlined for inland waterways. We have seen no notice from Dept of Transport or the MCA, which was requested weeks ago if the inland waterways advice stood for all our coastal operators.

British Marine has release advice here
When this page is opened, scroll down to bottom of the page for section on Charter Vessels and Hireboats and open this section. This has a full non prescriptive format for us to adopt in areas we see cover our businesses.
One poster at the end is COVID SECURE which should be displayed at our place of work and signed when we are happy to display it.

When the government permitted leisure trips to restart, I spoke with many operators regarding bare-boat charters and in my view with current guidelines if a company can show they can be COVID-SECURE with handovers and hygiene before and after then these could take place; when the customers left with the boat they were on a leisure trip. The companies must be able to demonstrate they are following government guidelines which as we have seen keep changing.

To help when you do decide to  operate we have produced an A2 poster for members to use on an A frame or place at their premise or boat.

The two images below are different sizes in real life, The COVID -19 Secure if printed off the BM site(link above) is A4 size and the other message is an A2 size poster that we have had printed and will be ready to post out to any member requiring them.  Please email with the number required and what address to post to. If anyone needs it as a PDF also please again ask and we will forward asap.

We have decided not to put the distances on the poster as the government is already talking about lowering this for pubs and restaurants. The handwash includes hand sanitiser options.

Thank you, Ian
