Sunday, August 11th
Ninth Sunday after Pentecost
9:30 a.m. Service of the Lord's Day
& Blessing of the Backpacks
Grace to you, and peace...
We had a lovely Sunday morning together on what just happened to be the fifth anniversary of my first day as pastor at EPC. We welcomed Annette and Sabra and I got to introduce the congregation to Evann Byrd, our brand new Youth Director.
Evan is a graduate of Hoover High and UAB and grew up at Vestavia Hills Baptist. Evann brings a passion for inclusiveness and wants to be a mentor and role model for our youth. We'll be introducing her more fully as the school year kicks off. Evann has got a lot of new names to learn, but be sure to introduce yourself when you see her.
I'm headed out of town Tuesday afternoon -- Santa Fe and San Francisco! -- returning next Tuesday.
On Sunday, the Rev. Zana Free will be your preacher, continuing a brief visit with the Letter to the Hebrews. Many of you have met Zana, but for those who haven't, she's a chaplain at UAB with a wonderfully wry sense of humor. Join Zana for worship and bring your backpacks and briefcases and whatever else you bring to work or school. It's time for the Blessing of the Backpacks during our Sermon from the Steps to get everyone ready for the school year. I'm seriously bummed to miss this! With all that excitement, we'll take a break from Sunday School for one more week.
