UTS STAGE-2
Prep Classes Available at Brain Power!
We aim to strengthen the skills your child needs for Stage 2 at UTS, especially his/her interview skills.  That being said, we will address ALL aspects of Stage 2, have practice drills and provide feedback, and provide intense improvement plans tailored for your child.  The training is rigorous and detailed with lots of individualized attention.

Each year, the majority of our students who get to Stage 2 make it into UTS. We have a few of last year's successful students (and their parents) available as mentors to you, in addition (of course!) to Reuven and Karine themselves.

Brain Power will begin the 2016-2017 Stage 2-Prep classes on:

Sunday, January 8th            @      5:00-8:00 pm

Alumni of the Month:
Ben Levy
Thinking of going to medical school? Meet our alumni Ben Levy, who's helping students plan their way in through his non-profit organization:

Operation Med School

Operation Med School (created and operated by Ben!) runs a conference each year for about 300 high-school students in the GTA who want to pursue medicine. They bring in a bunch of awesome speakers who have experience in the field (i.e. they are doctors, researchers, or current medical students) to run lectures, hands-on workshops, and networking sessions with all of the attendees.

It's a really amazing experience for anyone thinking about going into medicine, and everyone leaves a bit more enlightened and excited about the future! At the end of it all, Operation Med School donates the proceeds to SickKids Foundation.

This is Operation Med School's fourth year, and we are sure that some of our current Brain Power students will be eager to attend!

Congratulations on your success, Ben!
We are so proud of you!
Much Ado About Nothing

Brain Power takes in a live Shakespeare production at Hart House Theatre (University of Toronto)

Every year Brain Power offers students the opportunity to see a live Shakespeare production!* This year the play of choice was Much Ado About Nothing, and students went to see it performed at Hart House Theatre (University of Toronto)

This classic comedy follows the confusions and misunderstandings of two young couples over the “nothings” spread by rumour, gossip, and eavesdropping (i.e. “noting”).

Students discussed the play during the intermission and immediately following the performance. Discussion was led by our very own Shakespeare expert, Dr. Joel Benabu!

* This event was run in tandem with our book club’s reading of the play itself.

Brain Power's FREE Book Club!
Brain Power's Book Club is FREE for all Brain Power Students!**

Our monthly events are hosted by Brain Power teachers and special guests. Students are encouraged to participate in order to foster a love of reading, analyzing, and discussing great literature.

How it works:

Step 1) Check out our book list (in our newsletters and on our bulletin boards).

Step 2) Choose which month(s) you'd like to join us for our book club event. (If you are not sure of the age recommendation of a listed book, please inquire at the Brain Power office.)

Step 3) Sign up at the Brain Power office for the book club event dates you'd like to join.

Step 4) Get your book from the library (or purchase it) and read it before the book club event date.

Step 5) Fall in love with reading and discussing amazing literature!

** Participation in our book club discussions is always free, though their may be a fee for attending any extra events associated with the monthly reading and discussion (e.g. theatrical performances, films, etc.). That is why students (and parents) should sign up for book club meetings well in advance.

Around The World In Eighty Days by Jules Verne

Saturday, January 28th @ 5:00 pm
(Room 3 at Brain Power)

Phileas Fogg has all he needs to get by. In fact, he has so much money that he can afford to travel around the entire world (with his trusty manservant) just to prove to his buddies that it can be done in 80 days. (In 1872, when the novel is set, that seemed impossible!)

If he wins, Phileas gets £20,000 (now about $3.3 million Canadian), but it isn't about the money -- sure, if he loses he will be flat broke, but if he wins he will only break even. For Phileas it is all about the challenge-- until, that is, an unexpected love affair complicates matters!

Congratulations to Tonya Seltzer on her wedding!
