We also help families review and understand ‘fit’ for various schools and programs, as well as build a schedule plan to complete open house visits and applications.

Lauren Koek Selected for Internship in Jakarta
and Takes Future Lawyers International
Our wonderful Brain Power alumna Lauren Koek has lots of amazing news!
When she was in high school, Lauren co-founded Future Lawyers, anon-profit, student-run organization that works to educate and inspire youth about law.
Now, as a result of a lot of hard work, the organization she started has grown to become Future Lawyers International!
Not only that, Lauren was accepted for an amazing summer internship in Jakarta with Gradient Venture Studio as a Venture Builder Intern!
We'll let Lauren tell you all about her journey with Future Lawyers:
When we started Future Lawyers, we had aimed to provide high schoolers in Toronto with tips for getting into law school. We planned our first in-person conference in 2020; however, we quickly pivoted to a virtual setting due to COVID. Although we thought the pivot was a setback to our plans, it ended up being a blessing in disguise. Instead of 100 students from Toronto, we ended up reaching 250 students from over 60 cities worldwide.
Furthermore, we immediately began receiving inquiries about bringing these opportunities to other global cities, and we devised a plan to recruit other motivated individuals to start chapters in their own cities. In December 2020, we launched our first external chapter: Halifax (recently rebranded to “Atlantic”). Meanwhile, we continued planning our next annual conference which had the goal of including as many international lawyers as possible.
York Region District School Board (YRDSB) and the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) began to notice us. They offered students a SHSM credit for their participation at our conference. SHSM later approached us to create a certification program for students to learn about the legal industry and the relevance of legal terminology in everyday life. Given the impact that we had on youth in the GTA, our Toronto chapter was awarded the Rising Youth Grant, funded by Canada Service Corps and Taking IT Global.
I am happy to share that this year, besides distinguishing Future Lawyers International as the headquarters of Future Lawyers, we currently have India, Australia, Singapore, Toronto, Atlantic, and Hong Kong chapters with and a few more in the works. It is truly my privilege to work with such a great team of amazing individuals, and have the support of my mentor, Dr. Karine Rashkovsky. We definitely would not be where we are without her help!
CONGRATULATIONS ON ALL OF YOUR SUCCESS, LAUREN!

I love how all of the teachers are passionate about their jobs. As a student it really helped motivate me and feel excited to learn. I especially want to thank Jason and Karine. I really enjoyed being in their classes and I am grateful for how they were always willing to help me, whether it was giving me advice or assisting with my university applications. Thank you so much!
