What Are the Secrets for Raising Happily Productive Kids?
In this presentation, Dr. Joanne Foster reveals seven key secrets for going beyond intelligence, in order to help children and teenagers thrive. She discusses how to attune to your child’s personality and changing needs; provide multi-sensory stimulation and learning opportunities; foster intelligence; nurture creativity; cultivate a growth mindset; strive for balance; and respond to what’s central to your child’s well-being. She pays close attention to the implications for busy parents, and provides lots of practical take-home strategies. There will also be a question and answer period, and plenty of time to chat.

A Note of Congratulations!
Congratulations Karine! Brain Power director, Dr. Karine Rashkovsky, was a key note speaker in Limmud FSU's fall conference. Congratulations, Karine, on a big turn-out to your talk on "Re-examining Education and Success" - we love the feedback attendees keep sending us! http://www.limmudfsucanada.org/staff-v…/karine-rashkovsky-2/
Another congratulations to Dr. Karine Rashkovsky on the Order of Vaughan 2016 nomination, for her contributions in education to the city. Nomination support provided by the former Chairman and CEO of York Region, Mr. Bill Fisch, and York University Professor, Faculty of Education, Dr. Sandra Schecter. Kudos!
Alumni of the Month: Tonia Maltsev!
My name is Tonia Maltsev and I am a proud Brain Power alumni!
I am now a second year student at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. My major is General Management with concentrations in Finance, Entrepreneurship and Organizational Behaviour.
I had an amazing experience at Brain Power and I am convinced it has played an immense role in the way I have developed as a person. Brain power taught me the invaluable lesson of understanding and believing that I can pursue anything I put my mind to. Brain Power has not only helped me with math an English (which allowed me to excel in school and get accustomed to being ahead of the class, a habit that I carry with me to this day), but also shaped the way I think and look at the world around me. I have become a much more analytical and curious person. Thanks to Brain Power, I am also very proud of my public speaking skills and I have become much more comfortable speaking in front of an audience.
The highlight of my classes at BP was not the course material or the method of teaching but it was the enthusiasm that Karine and the other teachers at BP had. Karine inspired me every time I walked into class and encouraged my love for learning. I have always viewed Karine as my biggest role model and more of a life mentor rather than just a teacher.
Finally, at BP I truly believe I have found a family of sorts that I can always look to for help and advice, something that is rare to come across.
Tonia! We are proud of you!

Public Speaking and Improv: Confidence through Comedy!
Brain Power’s junior public speaking and improv program integrates activities designed to develop oral communication skills and a greater self-awareness of voice and body language, and covers the basics of improv comedy. While the course will be filled with enriching activities and laughter, the goals of the course are to build confidence, public speaking skills, listening skills, and leadership. These invaluable skills will help young people in their presentations, school work, interpersonal relationships, interviews, and, eventually, the workforce.
Brain Power’s improv classes are taught by our in-house improv specialist and Ivy League graduate, Sarah M. Alexander. Sarah is an experienced public speaker who has delivered addresses/speeches at universities and conferences across North and Central America. Sarah is giddy to share her wealth of improv skills and knowledge she gained studying and performing at the world’s best improv theatres, including The Second City (Toronto), Upright Citizens Brigade (Los Angeles), and iOWest (Los Angeles).
