The Office of the Vice President for Research, in partnership with the National Center for Institutional Diversity, has awarded nearly $500,000 in grants to eight research teams from across the University of Michigan to explore complex societal racial inequalities that ultimately inform actions to achieve equity and justice.

In Perspective: Opioid lawsuit payout plans overlook a vital need

Manufacturers, suppliers and pharmacies are facing litigation for the harm and suffering caused by inappropriate opioid prescribing practices, but gaps in pain care and treatment — one of the key factors that enabled inappropriate opioid prescribing in the first place — persist. Dr. Mark C. Bicket and his colleagues at the University of Michigan believe there are three key ways to improve pain treatment and address resource gaps for patients with acute and chronic pain.
