Today: COVID-19 Research Town Hall

U-M research leadership will host a virtual town hall from 3:30-4:30 p.m. today to answer questions and provide guidance on research operations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The novel coronavirus has affected nearly every aspect of the U-M research enterprise, from grants administration and human subjects research to laboratory safety. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in today's town hall to determine how to best manage their research and scholarship amid COVID-19.

Rebecca Cunningham, vice president for research, will moderate a panel that includes Steve Kunkel of the Medical School, Steve Ceccio of the College of Engineering, Lutgarde Raskin of the Rackham Graduate School and Chris Poulsen of LSA.

COVID-19 Research Index

Researchers across a wide variety of disciplines at U-M are using their expertise to address the global COVID-19 pandemic.

In an effort to increase awareness and foster collaboration among U-M researchers studying the novel coronavirus, OVPR created a COVID-19 Research Index that lists projects in various stages of development — from planning to fully launched.

NSF urges proposals to study pandemic impact on undergraduate education

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected undergraduate education in unprecedented ways. NSF's Division of Undergraduate Education (DUE) is encouraging research proposals that explore the impacts of the outbreak on students and educators that could provide new knowledge about STEM learning, virtual learning environments, the impact of stress on learning and other significant topics.

Investigators should review the April 3 Dear Colleague Letter related to COVID-19 (NSF 20-52) and consider relevant funding programs, including the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE): EHR program, the IUSE: HSI program, the S-Stem program, the ATE program, the Noyce program, and the ECR Core research program.

RD support to help mobilize research teams

UMOR's Research Development team offers proposal development services for pulling together external applications, as well as virtual facilitation services for ideation sessions or project planning. The team can help you brainstorm with old and new collaborators, hone research questions, generate specific aims and develop plans for propelling the project forward.
