Central States Synod Assembly is going green!
|
Our theme,
United with Christ: All Creation Groans. All Creation Sings.
Not only reminds us of our connection to one another and to God’s creation, it empowers us to fulfill our obligations to care for God’s creation.
The Central States Synod is declaring our commitment, and we are also living it. The assembly planning team along with members of Lutherans Restoring Creation are working to incorporate creation care elements wherever possible into Synod Assembly.

Here is some of what we will be doing. . .

Working with the hotel staff to alter the meeting room temperature by two degrees. This potentially can reduce our energy consumption by an estimated 10%.
|

Suspending hotel stayover service for all Assembly guests. Most of us will only be staying two nights. Reusing towels and bedding conserves water and reduces pollutants. Stayover service is available upon request, simply contact the front desk.

|
|

Reducing disposable or one-time use products where possible such as paper cups, plastic bottles, and straws. Instead, refillable glassware will be provided. When paper products cannot be avoided we are exploring ways to make recycling available and easily accessible.

|
|

Reducing printed materials. This year the synod will not be printing binders for voting members. Instead, the information will be accessible through a Voting Member Portal on our website and an event app for use on mobile devices.

|
Here is what YOU can do. . .
|
|
|

Carpool to the assembly. Consider partnering with a nearby congregation. This is cost effective, environmentally friendly, neighborly and karaoke is completely optional!

|
|

Bring your own reusable water bottle. We will have water stations on hand to refill them and keep you hydrated.
|
|
|
|

Adjust the temperature of your sleeping room. The majority of the day you will be in the meeting spaces, give your hotel room’s air conditioning a break while you aren’t there.
|

|
|

Print only what is essential for you to use during the assembly. Use your mobile device, tablet or laptop to access the assembly materials online or via the app rather than printing excessive amounts of documents. We will even have charging stations on hand to keep your devices powered up during the assembly. Just don’t forget your chargers.
