I’d like to say a special thank you to all who have helped New Schools to flourish. Together, with many Chicago leaders as advocates and supporters, I’m proud to have seen this organization make great strides in 2016. As you know, we work diligently to realize our vision of creating a conducive environment for great schools to thrive, which will, in turn, provide 50,000 more students high-quality seats by 2020.
Just over a year after we invested in this renewed vision, rather than 75,000 students in low-quality schools, we see that number reduced to 50,000.
We are proud to have been part of both direct and indirect gains in the district, and invite you to review our 2016 Progress Report,
which includes updates on each area of our work, and an analysis of improvements across the district.
Even more, I look forward to our continued work with the district and with parents in 2017, so that all students in Chicago may have access
to a high-quality education. Together, we are working towards implementing Universal Enrollment at the high school level. We continue to boost the parent voice towards actionable change, while also supporting parents in navigating to high-quality schools. Finally, we have expanded our School Improvement Grant program, and look forward to welcoming traditional neighborhood schools alongside charters in Cohort 2.
Thank you for all that you do.
