UWA Fencing Club Update, June 2020

Dear UWAFC Members,

Finally!  We are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel and can confirm we will resume training from Tuesday 9 June.

However, we must ask all members to register for each class they plan to attend.  We ask members to go to https://app.clubworx.com/websites/uwafencing/calendar to sign up to each class.

I have extended memberships to July so all existing members should be able to access the Calendar using the e-mail they signed up with.  New membes can enter a class by signing up as a prospect.  If anyone has difficulty registering for a session then please e-mail me at president@uwafencing.org

Protocols
In addition to the above, and as we previously indicated, while some restrictions have been lifted, we must still follow certain requirements in accordance with UWA rules, including:
  • We are still limited at the moment to 20 people training at one time (however, we can now train alongside other clubs in a different part of the venue);
  • A 'get in - train - get-out' training approach;
  • No sharing of equipment, waterbottles or towels;
  • Frequent cleaning requirements;
  • No use of showers or changing rooms;
  • Mantain attendance records;
  • Ensure a volunteer is on site and responsible for maintaining these requirements.
We will continue to loan or sell equipment to members who do not have their own as far as possible (although we will require new members to sign up before this can be extended.

Annual General Meeting
In other news, the AGM has been rescheduled to 25th July 2020 (and pending social distancing rules at the time we may host the meeting using a suitable videoconferencing app).  There will be committee election at the AGM where all positions are available for nomination including:
  • Four (4) Office Holders of President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary;
  • At least one UWA student who shall be the University Sports Council Representative; and
  • At least one Ordinary Committee Member.
We encourage members to consider volunteering as there are many responsibilities and we would benefit from as much assistance as we can manage. If you would like to be a part of the committee please express your interest by replying to this email or contact Ben at president@uwafencing.org if you have any further questions. Please come along to the AGM if you can even if you are not interested in joining the committee as you can provide feedback on the club’s performance and raise any suggestions or requests that you would like the committee to consider.

Member Protection Information Officer
One of our most important functions as a Club is to provide a safe and inclusive environment.

Our Member Protection Officer who has served the Club for some years now, Bob Warner-Stanton, has recently stood down from the role.  l would like to extend a warm thanks to Bob for his strong support in this critical position.

Accordingly, we ask for volunteers to step up to this role so we can have an independent person to manage any member protection issues we might have.

If anyone has any concerns in the meantime, please contact any of our committee members to raise those concerns.
As always if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me or reply to this email. On behalf of everyone in UWA Fencing Club’s committee stay safe and we hope to see you again.

Kind regards,

Ben Peden
