Students and staff are welcome to participate in ultimate frisbee, soccer, pool, board games, video games and then wrap up with a swim in the campus pool. There will be free food and drinks.

ExtravaCANza
Friday, Oct. 28, 7 p.m. – The Burrow/SR Bldg
Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to donate canned goods throughout homecoming week. The drop-off location will be in the Burrow. Students will participate in ExtravaCanza, a structure building contest using the canned goods that will be donated to a local foodbank after the conclusion of Homecoming festivities.

Honors College Scientist Published in Current Biology Richard Gordon
A new study co-authored by Greg Macleod, Ph.D., associate professor in the Honors College and College of Science, observes the energy efficiency of neurotransmitter release sites such as the motor nerve terminals. The study titled "High-Probability Neurotransmitter Release Sites Represent an Energy-Efficient Design," was recently published in Current Biology. Read Here.
FAU Brain Institute Postdoc Granted Young Investigator Award Richard Gordon
FAU Brain Institute postdoc, Matthew Robson, Ph.D., has been granted a two-year, $70,000 NARSAD Young Investigator Award from the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation. Robson will use this prestigious award to investigate the actions of inflammatory cytokines - a non-antibody protein released by cells on contact with an antigen - and their actions to modulate central nervous system serotonin signaling related to mental illness. Assistant Vice President of Communication Joins Connect Florida’s Statewide Leadership Institute Richard Gordon
Cara C. Perry, Assistant Vice President of Communication for FAU Northern Campuses, was recently accepted to Class VII of Connect Florida’s Statewide Leadership Institute. A program of Leadership Florida, Connect Florida is the premier statewide resource for educating, engaging and inspiring Florida’s top emerging leaders. The program is designed to encourage development of statewide leadership skills at the professional and civic levels and to enhance understanding of Florida’s history, demography, assets and challenges. FAU Expo Reaches 3,000 Attendees Richard Gordon
3,000 area high school students and their families attended the 2016 FAU Expo at the FAU Football Stadium on the Boca Raton Campus. This annual event showcases the University to prospective Owls. The Wilkes Honors College, Jupiter Life Science Initiative, College of Education, Academic Affairs and Student Life were among the many FAU units represented with engaging booth displays. The “4.0 Owls,” a select group of high-preforming potential students, attended sessions with select faculty members and Deans in the stadium’s Delray Acura Club,. These top-prospects heard special remarks from President Kelly and were engaged in conversations around FAU’s exciting undergraduate research opportunities.
Students Volunteer at Abacoa’s STRONGER than Cancer Young Hero 5k Run/Walk Richard Gordon
The Honors College volunteer club SAVI recently supported Abacoa’s STRONGER than Cancer Young Hero 5k Run/Walk. The students helped with set-up and breakdown of the course and handing out water and beads that represent a child’s cancer journey to runners. The certified race through downtown Abacoa ended at home plate in Roger Dean Stadium.
Honors College Admissions Hosts St. Lucie High School Students on Campus Richard Gordon
On Tuesday, a group of high school students from St. Lucie County visited the Jupiter campus and Wilkes Honors College. The prospective students toured the campus and learned more about admissions, scholarships and campus services. This is an annual event in partnership with St. Lucie Public Schools.
Florida Atlantic University’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter presently enrolls more than 1,500 students and offers a broad range of upper-division and graduate courses. The campus houses the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and the nation’s largest Lifelong Learning Society. Both the FAU Brain Institute and the FAU Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology call the MacArthur campus home, providing cutting edge research infrastructure and educational programs that link to other FAU campuses. The Jupiter Life Science Initiative serves to unite scientists and students in campus research and training activities, and helps sustain FAU’s close affiliations with Scripps Florida and the Max Planck Florida Institute, which are also located on the campus.
