Jupiter's LLS Executive Director René Friedman Retires Randy Dean Blakely, Ph.D
René Friedman officially retired on January 1, 2016. She launched the FAU Lifelong Learning Society in Jupiter in the spring of 1997. Under her dedicated leadership, the LLS program in Jupiter achieved sustained success, attracting 7 million in donations to build the Elinor Bernon Rosenthal Lifelong Learning Complex. Today, the program serves more than 7,800 adult learners. From the beginning, LLS Jupiter has offered a wide variety of fascinating non-credit classes taught by a dynamic team of FAU faculty and guest lecturers. Knowing that LLS is enriching the lives of older adults gives René great satisfaction, as does seeing the friendships that form in and out of the classroom. René was highly skilled in public relations, management and program development. Her accomplishments at LLS Jupiter over the course of nearly 20 years established a lasting legacy at FAU and earned her well-deserved recognition within the national continuing education movement.
