FAU Jupiter Gears Up for Fall 2016! Richard Gordon
The Division of Student Affairs is excited to welcome new and returning students to the Jupiter campus in the upcoming weeks! This is an exciting time for our campus community as we host Move-In Day, Honors College Orientation and Weeks of Welcome:

• August 16: Move-In Day for New Students

Beginning at 8 a.m., new students will start moving into the campus residence halls. Check-in will be located in the Dining Hall. Move-In volunteers are still needed and welcomed. For further information and to join the team, contact Courtney Thompson or JupiterHousing@fau.edu.

• August 16-21: Orientation

Over 130 new transfer and first time in college (FTIC) students will be welcomed to the Jupiter campus this month. FTIC Orientation check-in will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m.-11 a.m. in the Dining Hall. New transfer students Orientation check-in will take place on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 8 a.m. Students will participate in numerous educational, informational and FUN programs throughout the week; included in the schedule are many long-standing campus traditions like Faculty/Student Advising Dinners, Tie-Dye Day, Honors College Convocation and the annual Sailing Day. • August 22-September 2: Weeks of Welcome

Weeks of Welcome (WOW) is the first two weeks of the school year and exists to educate new students regarding the services and programs available to assist in their success and connectivity on-campus. WOW activities are held on all campuses to help students network, become familiar with campus and get acquainted with the many resources available. The Student Affairs team hosts WOW to prepare students for a successful academic and social experience. FAU Jupiter’s Lifelong Learning Society Announces Fall Course Schedule Richard Gordon
Florida Atlantic University has announced the Lifelong Learning Society Jupiter course offerings for the fall semester, which begins Monday, Oct. 10. Taught by FAU professors and distinguished guest lecturers, course offerings include such varied subjects as foreign policy, political science, film, music, art history and literature. The Lifelong Learning Society was established to provide adults of all ages the opportunity to enrich their lives through non-credit, university-level courses with no homework or tests. Read more.
Honors College MERGE Summer Program a Success Richard Gordon
FAU’s Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College hosted MERGE a week-long summer program for high school students from July 24 through July 29. MERGE focused on the important interaction among science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and the liberal arts. Some of the activities included dissecting a cow’s eye, visiting the Norton Museum of Art and touring the labs of FAU. In collaboration with South Florida Science Museum and aquarium's STEM Studio in Abacoa, the campers learned also about the brain in action. For more infomation contact Monica Maldonado.
Nambu Scholarship Recipients Share Accomplishments at Third Annual Research Day Event Richard Gordon
The third annual John Nambu Memorial Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program recently culminated with its third annual Researach Day Event that features student presentations highlighting their accomplishments in the lab. Established in the memory of the late Dr. John Nambu, professor of Biology, the program provides undergraduates an opportunity to perform cutting-edge research in neuroscience and behavior-oriented labs during the summer on the Jupiter and Boca campuses. Florida Atlantic University’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter presently enrolls more than 1,500 students and offers a broad range of upper-division and graduate courses. The campus houses the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and the nation’s largest Lifelong Learning Society. Both the FAU Brain Institute and the FAU Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology call the MacArthur campus home, providing cutting edge research infrastructure and educational programs that link to other FAU campuses. The Jupiter Life Science Initiative serves to unite scientists and students in campus research and training activities, and helps sustain FAU’s close affiliations with Scripps Florida and the Max Planck Florida Institute, which are also located on the campus.
