FAU Graduate Students Tour Biotech Company Richard Gordon
Graduate students currently enrolled in “Drug Development and Regulation,” a new course offered on the Jupiter campus by FAU’s Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (CMBB), got a behind-the-scenes look at the Riviera Beach-based Sancilio & Company, Inc., where they toured their biopharmaceuticals manufacturing facilities. On the heels of its 20-year anniversary, FAU’s CMBB continues to fulfill its mission to build a biotechnology hub in the region. The Center’s partnership with Sancilio & Company, Inc., a biotech company focused on the development of novel therapies for application in the emerging field of lipidomics, trains highly-skilled workers in biopharmaceuticals and drug development. This graduate-level course, taught by Sancilio scientists, is designed to help meet their unique workforce needs by equipping students with industry knowledge, background on FDA regulations and hands-on laboratory experience with preparing and analyzing pharmaceutical solutions.
Wilkes Honors College Students Compete in National Model United Nations in D.C. Richard Gordon
Two Wilkes Honors College Students, Selene C. Vazquez and Chenchen Su, competed in the National Model United Nations simulation in Washington, D.C. with 20 fellow FAU undergraduates. The students were divided into three separate delegations, each representing a different country. FAU won 2nd overall out of the 80 universities that competed in the nation’s capital last weekend.

Florida Atlantic University’s John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter presently enrolls more than 1,500 students and offers a broad range of upper-division and graduate courses. The campus houses the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College and the nation’s largest Lifelong Learning Society. Both the FAU Brain Institute and the FAU Center for Molecular Biology and Biotechnology call the MacArthur campus home, providing cutting edge research infrastructure and educational programs that link to other FAU campuses. The Jupiter Life Science Initiative serves to unite scientists and students in campus research and training activities, and helps sustain FAU’s close affiliations with Scripps Florida and the Max Planck Florida Institute, which are also located on the campus.
