Willkommen to October! LIBeerGuide hopes you are all staying safe and enjoying Oktoberfest season and the start of fall. As you probably know, the Munich Oktoberfest was cancelled for the first time in this century because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully revelers on Long Island can still celebrate the spirit of Oktoberfest at local craft breweries, special events at beer bars and restaurants, and by enjoying traditional German food and beer at Long Island's German restaurants and beer gardens.
Long Ireland Beer Co. will hold its 7th Annual Oktoberfest celebration on Fri. Oct. 2 and Sat. Oct. 3 at the brewery in Riverhead. Bacon You Crazy and Geenas Weenas food trucks will provide German food to pair with the brewery’s Oktoberfest Lagerbier and other brews. Long Ireland will hold its annual Stein Holding Contest, socially distanced this year of course, and the perennial favorite movie BeerFest will be shown on the big screen. The festivities will run from 6-10 pm on both nights and reservations for tables of up to six people are required.
Blue Point Brewing in Patchogue had planned to hold a large Oktoberfest party under a tent but instead shifted to a virtual Zümfest, which is German for "to the fest." On Blue Point's Zümfest.online website there are a variety of virtual "tents" where you can learn to cook German food, enjoy German music and participate in Zoom tastings of Blue Point's fall beers. There is no charge for the online festival and it will run until the end of October.
Special Oktoberfest Events at Beer Bars and Restaurants
Craft Kitchen & Taphouse will hold Oktoberfest celebrations at its two locations in Lynbrook and Wantagh on Sat. Oct. 3. The events will feature special prices on Oktoberfest beers from Germany, free giveaways and a Stein Holding Contest.

The competition will be held at all nine BWW locations on Long Island on Sun. Oct. 4 at 7:30 pm. The competition is free to enter and BWW will feature German beers and pretzels during the month of October.
TJ Finley's Public House in Bay Shore will hold its 13th Annual Oktoberfest celebration this year as a virtual event. Patrons of the popular beer bar and restaurant will be able to pre-order party packages with Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier, commemorative beer steins, giant Bavarian pretzels and bratwurst from Karl Ehmer, The packages will be available for pick-up on Sat. Oct. 3 and Sat. Oct. 10. LI German Restaurants and Beer Gardens
Plattduetsche Park in Franklin Square, Long Island’s premier German restaurant and beer garden, is currently open Wednesday through Sunday for outdoor dining in its Biergarten. Reservations are not required and the large beer garden allows for lots of social distancing while enjoying wursts, schnitzel, sauerbraten and other traditional German dishes along with a wide selection of Oktoberfest beers from Germany.
There are several other fine German restaurants across Long Island to enjoy traditional German dishes and Oktoberfest beers this month, including Oak Chalet in Bellmore, Prost Grill in Garden City, Pumpernickels in Northport, Village Lanterne in Lindenhurst and Black Forest Brew Haus in Farmingdale. A complete list is available at LIBeerGuide.com on our German Pubs & Restaurants page.
